Help sheltered adolescents to live a worthy life

We are reaching out to update you on the recent developments within the nÓs Group since our last report. Our ongoing commitment involves working with teenagers, striving to provide new experiences and broaden the horizons of all those associated with the nÓs Group.

On September 23, we delved into the theme of professionalization. The nÓs Group technicians conducted activities focused on identity and careers. It became a period of self-discovery and professional revelations. Phrases such as "Does this profession truly align with my interests?" and "I wouldn't fancy working in this field, but I resonate more with that profession" echoed from the group during the activity. The emphasis on self-awareness and a broader skill set opens up avenues for contemplating a future with increased possibilities.

In the same month, we explored the realms of communication and the job market, incorporating dynamic sessions and valuable tips to equip young individuals for selection processes and acquaint them with corporate dynamics.

Moving into October, we hosted the eagerly anticipated 2nd nÓs Group Careers Fair! Meticulously organized with love (and a touch of sweat!) by the entire program team and the Instituto Fazendo História, the event garnered enthusiastic participation from volunteers. They not only provided organizational support but also shared their professional and life experiences with the teenagers.

The morning featured a round table discussion on youth and the world of work, with the presence of young individuals who have been part of the nÓs Group, a representative from the Ubuntu Network for popular education, and another from Juventudes Potentes. Their heartfelt speeches delved into the challenges each of them has faced in their professional journeys. In the afternoon, the professionals' tour allowed teenagers to exchange ideas and pose questions about professions that piqued their interest, concluding with a lively gift raffle for actively engaged participants. The event was a resounding success!

As part of our activity schedule in November, the Espaço Brumália team engaged with young people aged 17 to 19, conducting Professional and Career Guidance activities. These sessions, expressed through drawings and colors, aimed to help individuals reflect on their career and professional choices, encouraging more conscious and realistic decisions.

As November marked the close of the year, we conducted a retrospective of 2023. Teens had the opportunity to discuss what they observed and express their aspirations concerning the nÓs Group pillars: work, home ownership, conscious use of money, professionalization, citizenship, and identity. This evaluation is crucial for shaping our collective activities in 2024.

To culminate the year on a high note, we were once again honored in December with the Human Rights and Diversity Award from São Paulo City Hall, specifically in the Youth category.

In retrospect, the final moments of the past year were embraced with heartfelt gratitude for the challenges overcome, leaving us with treasured memories. As we step into this new year, 2024, may it be filled to the brim with fresh aspirations, exciting plans, and enriching encounters.

With enthusiasm, we would like to share the latest updates that have occurred within the nÓs Group since the last newsletter we sent to you.

It was a period of many cultural and artistic activities that emphasized various cultural expressions and collectives - in addition to encouraging and valuing the critical thinking of the adolescents served by the nÓs Group.

In June, we welcomed 23 new adolescents who agreed to be part of the program and have already started their journey with us. Currently, we have 65 young people participating in our activities.

In the months of June and July, we carried out two initiatives with the Quilombaque Cultural Community, located in the Perus region of São Paulo. Quilombaque is an important partner of ours and defines itself as a political, ethnic, and cultural movement guided by drums, with 15 years of great struggle and resistance. Through this partnership, we organized the Memory Trail with the young people from the nÓs Group, during which, with the support of a guide, we explored important spaces for the community, such as the library, hip-hop house, and the former cement factory. This trail allowed us to learn more about the Queixadas Movement, which is characterized as a movement for the Reappropriation of the Perus Cement Factory, considered the longest strike in Brazil from 1962 to 1969. Continuing with the experiences at the Quilombaque space, we proudly hosted our first Literary Festival of the nÓs Group! This event was a partnership with the "Fazendo Minha História" Program – another program of the "Instituto Fazendo História," aimed at working on life stories through the creation of albums and reading mediation. It was a very joyful and inspiring day in which we were able to celebrate popular culture through literature, traditional foods, games, and a jongo workshop.

In August, we also had the hosting and welcome soirée for the new adolescents of the nÓs Group. We were joined by artists from the Marginaliaria collective, represented by Andrio, Aliado (from Criminal Rap), Luan Marginal, and Mari Grafiteira. It was a morning filled with creativity and a spotlight on the power of youth.

This time, we will tell the story of V., who is 16 years old and joined the nÓs Group when she was 14. The young girl demonstrated a strong personality and a keen desire to learn, enthusiastically participating in activities. Her infectious behavior contributes to the development and interaction of the whole group. She is conscientious, honest, and determined. A young woman who enriches our gatherings with her words and actions. Currently, her day is filled with commitments. She enjoys taking care of her health, attends weekly psychotherapy sessions, goes to the gym, works, and studies in the evening. She likes dancing and using social media. She is in the first year of high school and takes pride in her performance. She works as an apprentice at a home decor and construction materials store. Until last year, she dreamt of becoming a doctor, but currently, she's considering studying Law at college, although she is open to exploring new professions. She plans to take preparatory courses to prepare for college entrance exams.
