Dear Donors,
the armed conflict begun in the Ethiopian region of Tigray, located at the border with Eritrea, is still threatening. On the 25th of March, the rebels of the Tigray region have agreed upon a “cessation of the hostilities”, after that the Ethiopian Government defined it a “humanitarian truce”. This conflict, which has been going on for about 17 months, has caused not only an internal crisis, but it has destabilized the entire region and has involved the most vulnerable sections of the civil society.
This tension has also influenced an already fragile healthy situation of the Country. As illustrated in the previous update, Eritrea is the only Country of the continent that has not accepted the vaccine against Covid-19 and it has limited the spread of updated news about the pandemic inside its borders. The World Health Organization reports 9.755 confirmed cases from January 2020 till May 2022 with just 103 deaths. We can easily understand how hard it is to obtain reliable data.
The reopening of the schools has represented a light of hope for our children. However, great changes have interested the school environment in Eritrea: during the last months a lot of schools managed by our local partner have become state-run. Despite these difficulties, our local partner has been able to keep in contact with the students supported and their families.
Alongside these problems, our project that aims at improving the life conditions of the poorest families living in rural villages and at ensuring their food security is going on. Thanks to your support, during the last four months we have raised 306.12 USD, that will allow us to support a poor family through the supply of three sheep that will provide it with milk and will increase its income.
Thanks for your help and for your constant support!
