Teacher Training changes lives

By Elizabeth A Appleyard | Program Administrator

There have been some workshops for teachers in recent months, one teaching workshop was held for 73 female teachers at the Department of Education for 10 days. Winters in Afghanistan are harsh and it is often not easy for people to travel to attend workshops. The teacher training program will put on more workshops once the weather improves.

AIL has been training teachers to give classes online in the new Meraj Academy which broadcasts on TV Meraj. This program gives access to a comprehensive 7-12th grade education via TV programs and is aimed at those students, especially girls who are unable to attend school. Teachers also load content to youtube and interactive with students via social media.

My name is Sahar and I have attended a teaching methods seminar. It was very useful to me as the new methods made me a better teacher and gave me more ideas and resources such as interactive learning, building relationships and problem solving. “ Palwasha said, “ I was always embarrassed because the students were not happy with my teaching. Now I am at a high level of competence and am effective in my teaching so I have the students’ and staff’s respect.” One attendee said, “ a teacher who lacks teaching methodologies is like a car without fuel.”

Your support for AIL’s training programs makes all the difference! Thank you.
