The Resilience of Life Traced

By Children Are Us Foundation | Cheer

Through every service and interaction, we witness the perseverance and brilliance of individuals with disabilities in their daily lives.

In the past, A-Rong (pseudonym) experienced a peak in his life as a writer, expressing emotions and recording his life experiences through words. However, a stroke resulting in aphasia and visual field defects not only stripped away his familiar means of expression but also plunged him into a low period, leaving him plagued by prolonged depression and anxiety. Following this sudden turning point in life, A-Rong began learning to face himself anew and seeking ways to get close to hope and dreams once again.

When A-Rong was first served, he could only express his needs using short words, relied on others for assistance while walking, and struggled to even clearly say the word "pen" that he was once most familiar with and used most often. Faced with physical changes and communication barriers, he lost his confidence, felt uncertain about the future, and even briefly entertained the thought of giving up.

However, through continuous companionship and cross-network resource support, A-Rong gradually rebuilt his living skills and regained the courage to interact with others. From short responses to proactively sharing his feelings with the case manager for individuals with disabilities, every small step forward was proof of A-Rong's hard work. One of the most touching moments was when A-Rong, who previously struggled to use a mobile phone due to brain damage, took the initiative one day to call the center, happily saying, "I can now use the phone buttons to make calls. Thank you for your company and care!" This short sentence represented not only A-Rong's progress but also his affirmation of our work, bringing him one step closer to successful recovery.

The road to recovery may be long, but every instance of companionship and support can become a source of strength and hope in the lives of individuals with disabilities. Moving forward, we will continue to accompany A-Rong through his rehabilitation journey, helping him rediscover hope and confidence in life.
