11th BCWC National winners and Award ceremony

By Dimitar Tsekov | Executive Director

Due to the COVID Pandemic all stages of the Bulgarian Creative Writing Competition were organized online. After the preliminary judging the best 18 works from all 7 categories advanced to the national judging which took place at the last weekend of January. 14 national judges, well known experts in their professional fields, reviewed the selected works and came up with the top 3 in each age category. The jury was impressed by the emotional stories, the colorful descriptions of characters and settings, the wonderful use of the English language and the meaningful messages of the students’ pieces of writing.

The Award ceremony was prerecorded and uploaded on the YouTube channel of the competition. All the winners were presented with videos, photos and short bios. The award ceremony started with a brief address from the Executive director of CORPLUS Foundation, followed by greetings from the Cultural and Educational Affairs Officer of the US Embassy and the founder of the competition – Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Vaune Hough-Snee. The Bulgarian Ambassador in Pakistan also greeted the winners as there were two Pakistani students among them.

All winners received certificates of achievement, interesting books in English and many other gifts. The American University in Bulgaria announced their traditional special awards - participation at the AUBG International Summer camp and AUBG English Language Summer Course. Those awards were given to Mihaela from Vidin and Mihaela from Varna.

A famous Bulgarian actress read the poem of one of the winners and expressed her satisfaction with the high quality of the students’ works. She wished all the participants to continue creating such wonderful and catchy fairytales, stories and poems.
