By Md. Nahid Hasan | Research Officer

Solar light helps them to study at night
Solar light helps them to study at night

Most of the Sundarbans coastal area is non-electrified and Sundarbans coastal communities living in dark at night due to lack of electricity and increased kerosene price. Due to their poverty, parents cannot afford to buy it for their children’s education purpose. As a result, school students of the coastal areas can’t continue their study at night for lack of electricity. So, it becomes a burden for them. But education is a fundamental right and they deserve to study as much as they can.

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) is an environmental and development organization which has been trying to reduce the sufferings of the coastal people by supporting solar lamps since 2014; because promoting renewable energy is one of the focal sectors of the organization. BEDS has already supported 3000 coastal families by giving solar lamp, solar home system, solar generator and solar battery. In addition, three solar stations have been installed for community’s electricity facility.

The organization is trying to raise fund from GlobalGiving platform for this purpose. So far, we have raised 910 $ from fourteen donationsand expect to draw the donors kind attention to fulfill the total amount 15000 $ for this project. We have been communicating with the local people regularly about the progress of our project.

We would like to thank all our donor for being so kind to us and we hope that you will continuously be with us for the betterment of the underprivileged coastal students.
