Empowering Rural Women through Sewing Training

By M. Sabrin Ahmed Roty | Project Contributor

Bangladesh is developing day by day and has experienced remarkable change in the living standard of the people specially the improvement of women and girls are remarkable. The living status of the women and girls has been improving day by day. The women of Mathurapur village are trying to change their dedication, hard work and will power. The people of region live below the poverty line and the area is subjected to several natural disasters. The women of this region struggle every moment to earn their livelihood. Most of the women are forest resource harvesters as the area is highly saline. They do not have such educational qualification so that they can get a job. There is scarcity of food, drinking water and other basic needs.

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has been working to improve the life standard of those women by homestead vegetable gardening, duck and ram raring etc. In 2015 BEDS has trained those women but could not support with sewing machines due to fund deficiency. So, those women couldn’t utilize their gathered experience. The initiative of BEDS has encouraged the women to change their condition by tailoring.

Realizing the necessity, BEDS has taken an initiative to empower 50 women of Mathurapur village by developing their skill on sewing and also providing them equipments related to sewing through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform. The required budget for the project is 11,518 $ and so far 934 $ is raised from 23 donations. We hope to raise full fund of the project by 2021 and take proper initiative for women empowerment as described in the proposal.

So, it’s an appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those struggling women to give them a chance to come out from the cycle of poverty and life a safe and healthy life.
