Some important changes
By Catharina van den Bosch | Founder/Director
As management we have reviewed all our projects running on GlobalGiving and we decided that it would be better to downsize to two projects. All activities of Abraham's Oasis center around mainly women and children and for this reason we have chosen to make one project for Women in Crisis and one project for Children in Crisis. The activities remain the same, we will continue to assist both at community level as well as providing services through our safe houses for the most severely affected women. We continue to do prevention, awareness raising, counseling, work with marginalized communities like the Kunama's, strengthening community based structures and provide economic empowerment. Your donations will continue to asssist the many needy people and rebuild/strengthen communities around us.
If you are a recurrent donor, you don't have to take any action, your contribution will automatically be re-directed to the women in crisis project.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter and we continue to be very grateful for your faithful support for the many needy women and communities.

Abel's story
By Catharina van Den Bosch | Founder/Director

Little baby Abel was only 40 days old when his mother passed away from cancer. The family was overwhelmed with grief and at the sametime they worried about the well-being of this newborn little baby. They went to the shop to buy a tin of baby formula for the little fellow and they were shocked by the price! One tin they could manage but a tin evey week would be much more than they could afford. The family talked together and Abel's aunt decided that she would go and knock the doors of organizations and government offices. When she went to the local health center to plead her case, the health workers referred her to Abraham's Oasis and we were able to supply everything needed to help Abel thrive. We do regular follow-up visits and he is doing very well. The family loves him and is working together to care for this boy.
Thank you for yur generous assistance so we can keep babies like Abel, in their family and in their community.

New hope

Mrs. Alem is 30 years old and has three children who have suffered both physical and psychological injuries due to the heavy artillery shelling during the Tigray war. When the conflict intensified, she was carrying her three-month-old child on her back while fleeing from the attacks. After walking a short distance from her home, heavy shelling occurred nearby thus adding to the trauma. Upon her return home, Mrs. Alem discovered that her belongings had been looted by an armed group. They took all the cash left at her home and even consumed five of her chickens, leaving her destitute and struggling to look after her family.
Our organization has been supporting war-affected communities, and Mrs. Alem was selected for assistance by the district's government social service. During our home-to-home assessments, we identified her as one of the most severely traumatized individuals due to her experiences. Our counselor conducted an initial evaluation of her trauma and discussed ways to support her. Mrs. Alem was open to receiving help, participated in all counseling sessions, and received financial assistance. With this support, she started a small poultry farming business.
We conducted follow-up home visits after providing her with assistance and found that Mrs. Alem has made significant progress. She has recovered from her trauma and is now earning a good income from selling eggs. Thank you for making a difference in Alem’s family and other women who have similar cases.
