Disability therapies for 1,300 children in Moldova

Your support for children living with disabilities is so very much appreciated. We want to share with you the story of one little girl helped by your gift.

Natalia loves to smile - and thanks to the team at the Tony Hawks Centre she now has even more to smile about.

She was a very wanted child, her parents had waited 15 years for a child. When she was born however her parents received the unexpected news that their daughter had Down syndrome. The family accepted the situation and from the age of 3 months began using the facilities offered at the Tony Hawks Centre to improve Maria’s health, development, and her physical, cognitive, and psycho-emotional well being.

The therapists have observed that Nataliia has good development potential, she can carefully follow objects, smiles, and has active movement / exploration skills. To improve her muscle tone she has received massage sessions, skills also shared with the parents.

Natalia particularly enjoys the hydrotherapy pool, swimming with the specialist to strengthen her immunity and breathing. Music-therapy classes have also proven popular with the little girl, but the emphasis now has been put on improving her active vocabulary and developing her personal autonomy skills.
