Equipping Youth with the Power of Critical Thinking

By Misbachul Munir | Project Staff

Dear Friends and Supporters,

At Punthuk Sewu Learning Center, we believe that education is not just about transferring technical knowledge—it is about empowering a human being. While our students learn about sustainable agriculture and English, we place equal importance on Soft Skills.

For many underprivileged youth in rural Bantul, the greatest barrier to success is often not a lack of talent, but a lack of self-confidence and a limited vision of what they can achieve.

Why Soft Skills Matter

In a rapidly changing world, technical skills get someone a job, but soft skills help them keep it and grow. By fostering leadership, communication, and critical thinking, we are ensuring our students:

  1. Avoid Exploitation: Confident youth are better at negotiating fair terms and recognizing their rights in the workplace.

  2. Drive Innovation: Creative thinkers are more likely to find sustainable solutions in farming and entrepreneurship.

  3. Lead Communities: We are training the next generation of village leaders who can advocate for their peers.

Our Core Soft-Skill Initiatives:

  • Public Speaking & Presentation: We encourage students to present their farm projects or book summaries in front of their peers. This builds the courage to speak their truth.

  • Collaborative Problem Solving: Through group projects in our eco-garden, students learn the art of teamwork, conflict resolution, and collective decision-making.

  • Leadership Workshops: Our "Youth Lead" sessions help participants identify their strengths and learn how to motivate others toward a common goal.

A Story of Transformation

Recently, one of our students, who was initially too shy to look people in the eye, led a group discussion on circular economy principles. To see that shift—from silence to leadership—is the true return on your investment.

Your Impact

Your donations provide more than just tools and seeds; you are providing the safe space and mentorship needed for these young people to find their voices. As we transition toward becoming a formal vocational school, this character-building remains the heart of our curriculum.

Thank you for believing in the potential of these children. You are not just funding a school; you are building the leaders of tomorrow.

With gratitude,

The Punthuk Sewu Learning Center Team
