Preparing English Classes for Children

By Nur Abdullah | Project Staff

As communities across Indonesia prepare to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, daily routines naturally shift. Families adjust how they spend their time, especially in the afternoons and evenings. For children, this period requires thoughtful time management to ensure that Ramadan becomes not only a spiritual moment, but also a meaningful learning experience.

One of the services we provide is a special English learning class for elementary school–aged children. As highlighted in our previous reports, children in rural areas have limited access to English courses. Although many public schools have introduced English into their curriculum, challenges remain due to limited facilities and varying teacher quality. As a result, many rural children fall behind in developing basic language skills that are increasingly important for their future.

Our English classes are planned to take place every Saturday and Sunday from 4:00–6:00 PM (WIB). The sessions are designed as play-based learning activities, allowing children to learn English in a fun, interactive, and relaxed environment. This schedule also enables children to learn together and break their fast as a group, turning the learning space into a joyful and communal Ramadan experience.

These English classes will continue after Ramadan, with schedules adjusted based on community needs and school calendars. Our goal is to create a sustainable learning space that supports children’s confidence, communication skills, and long-term educational development.

How You Can Support

You can support this initiative by helping us cover teacher fees and provide learning materials for the children. We have created a microproject under our school program specifically to fund this English course.
