Overview

Youth are vital catalysts for transforming economic and agricultural systems toward sustainability. Recognizing that a lack of exposure to sustainable practices often limits youth involvement, the Punthuk Sewu Learning Center launched the"Introduction to Circular Economy for Youth"program. This initiative is a core part of their green vocational education and capacity-building efforts.

Core Objectives

The program was designed to:

• Demystify the principles of the circular economy for the younger generation.
• Deepen understanding of the multi-dimensional capital required for sustainable farming.
• Cultivate innovative thinking regarding local food security and environmental challenges.
• Inspire youth to pursue careers in green entrepreneurship and sustainable agriculture.

Key Learning Modules

• The Circular Transition: Participants explored the shift from a "take–make–dispose" linear model to a circular approach focused on resource efficiency and waste elimination. Practical examples included organic waste composting and integrated crop-livestock systems.
• Holistic Capital Management: The session broadened the definition of "capital" beyond finances, teaching youth to balance natural (biodiversity), human (skills), social (networks), and economic (market access) resources for long-term agricultural success.
