The activities for the past few months include:
APAC2019 from 20/06/19 to 22/06/19
A few of us had the opportunity to attend the Asia Pacific Autism Conference 2019 (APAC2019) held for the first time in Singapore. It was a very enriching experience where we were able to learn more about the best practices that we can use as we help our clients, and also to network with new friends whom we met at the conference.
CSR by Grace Methodist Church, Singapore on 21/06/19 & 22/06/19
We were very blessed by volunteers from Grace Methodist Church (GMC), Singapore who came to Wings Melaka for one of their social work events. On the first day, some of the volunteers spent time with our students with fun-filled activities such as fishing, bubbles play, music and movement, play dough etc whilst their parents attended a talk cum sharing session on parenting. This session was conducted by Mr Roland together with other volunteers from GMC.
On the second day, the volunteers had to brave through the rain and a little 'flood' before reaching our centre for some cleaning works. They helped with the maintenance of our centre's building and they also specially setup a calm room for our students to use!
Parents Support Group on 20/07/19
Our speaker for this event is Dr Alefiya Nomanbhoy who conducted a workshop style support group session on the topic 'Relationships & Behaviour Management'. Participants to the event got to learn more about the importance of building positive relationships with our students/ their children as well as methods we could implement while managing behaviour in a positive way. It was an interactive session where participants were able to share their thoughts on issues raised during the session and also their ideas on best ways to manage/ handle the particular situation.
Learning trip on 14/08/19 & 15/08/19
Staff of Wings Melaka were given the priviledge to go on a learning trip to Eden Centre for Adults and Eden Children's Centre at Clementi, Singapore. We were warmly welcomed by their team of management and staff where they shared with us about their centres and programmes & practices as well as giving us a tour around both centres.
We are grateful for the support given to us as our trainees fom YAP continued with their catering works as well as operation of the cafe for visitors throughout the past few months.
To-date, we have 36 students in EIP, 17 students in SAP and 7 trainees in YAP - supported by a staff of 7 EIP/SAP teachers, 2 YAP trainers, 1 administrator cum YAP trainer, 1 head coach and 1 executive director.
Thank you!
