Activities for past months include:

Fire Drill on 19/09/18

We had our annual fire drill by personnel from Balai Bomba Jalan Kubu, Melaka. They had a simulation run with one of our trainees from YAP posing as a 'victim'. They also reminded us on fire safety as well as on how to put out a fire with a fire extinguisher.

Parents Support Group on 29/09/18

Our speaker for the event was Mr Benson Song, an Occupational Therapist. He shared with participants about handwriting - the types of handwriting grips, ways to encourage a child's handwriting skills and how they could build their muscles or strength to encourage their fine motor development. It was an interactive session as participants were able to clarify and gain more understanding about the topic.

Outing to The Oceanarium @ The Shore on 31/10/18

We had an outing to The Oceanarium @ The Shore with students from EIP (with their parents) and SAP. We had fun ogling at the aquatic creatures at designated areas and there were 3-D interactive spots too, where we were able to catch a short 3-D video as well as take pictures with unique sea-themed frames.

YAP trainees visting Ace Home on 12/11/18

Our YAP trainees baked cupcakes to celebrate November birthdays at Ace Home, Melaka. The residents there were delighted to spend some time with our trainees. They were all smiles and gave praises for those delicious cupcakes.

Visitors from Havil International School on 19/11/18

A group of 54 from Havil International School, Brickfields, KL visited our centre. The group consisted of staff and students. They had lunch prepared by our YAP trainees and toured around the centre before gathering for a short presentation by our Executive Director, Ms Chan Saw Si.

Throughout the months, the catering work and cafe operations are still running by YAP trainees.

To-date, we have 29 students in EIP, 15 students in SAP and 9 trainees in YAP – supported by a staff of 4 EIP/SAP teachers, 2 trainers, 1 head coach, 1 administrator and 1 Executive Director.

3rd Update 2018

Our past few months were colourful with activities including:

Autism Initiatives Malaysia (AIM) Symposium 2018 from 13/07/18 to 14/07/18

5 of our staff attended the event which was held in JW Marriot Hotel, KL. Our advisor, Mrs Yammy Ang also serves as Chairman for AIM. The sessions catered mostly on topics related to the Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). We had a refreshing time with the sharing/topic presentations as well as interactive sessions arranged during the symposium.

Pre-concert & Coffee Session with the Philharmonic Society of Selangor’s team on 21/07/18

It was a fun afternoon out as we had a sing-along (with all staff, children and their families) under the rain tree with the Philharmonic Society of Selangor’s team. We then had a casual tea-break where we were able to fellowship and get to know more about each other’s work over makan!

Wings Melaka’s 20^th Anniversary Celebration on 22/07/18

Our special day was hosted by Hatten Hotel, Melaka. We were also blessed with breathtaking choir performances by the Philharmonic Society of Selangor’s team titled “Music & Laughter”. They certainly did entertain the attendees with their fun and energetic singing and dancing. The event was followed by a high-tea reception by the hotel.

Parents Support Group on 25/08/18

Our guest speaker for the event was Ms Winnie Chin, a mother with a young adult son with autism. She shared about her journey with her son, Kevin who loves animals and is now working as a dog behaviourist. She encouraged parents to not give up but to explore and tap on their children’s passion and strength.

Our trainees from our Young Adults Program (YAP) also did some catering work as well as operating their café for the past few months. We are thankful to friends as well as to the community for their support.

Centre activities for the past 3 months include:

Coffee Session on 16/03/18

Parents gathered together and had a great time fellowshipping over dinner. After that, there were a few sharing sessions by:

1) Our Heach Coach, Ms Lois Fu also shared about methods/ways that parents can use to help develop their children’s communication skills.

2) Our Executive Director, Ms Chan Saw Si shared about the importance of having support groups amongst parents.

3) One of our trainees' parent, Mdm Yong shared about her journey with her son and encouraged parents to never give up in their own walk with their children.

Outing to Melaka Bird Park on 21/03/18

Our students and trainees had a wonderful time at the Melaka Bird Park. They got the chance to walk around the park with many variety of birds as well as feeding them!

Parents Support Group (PSG) on 07/04/18

We are blessed to have our Treasurer, Mr Philip Lim to share about the SATIR model in our first PSG for the year. It was an enlightening time as those who attended the sharing are able to understand more about their own self especially in knowing and using self-knowledge to cope with possible elements of stress.

Dentist Visits on 07/05/18 & 08/05/18

It is the time of the year again when we welcomed a team of dentists and nurses from Klinik Pergigian Klebang to our centre for their annual visit. They did a presentation on how to clean and take care of our teeth as well as dental checkups on our students and trainees.

Parents Support Group on 12/05/18

Our guest speaker for the session was Mr Wan Huey Boon, a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) who shared on the topic “Treatments that are available for speech, language and oromotor issues”. He not only shared about the treatment methods, he shared about the importance of knowing and understanding a child as well as explaining more in depth about the definition of ‘speech’, ‘language’ and ‘communication’ and how we can encourage a child to develop these skills.

Our young adults trainees also started their swimming lessons during the month and they most certainly enjoyed themselves there!
