Dear Friends,
We are delighted to report that the building of four floors of new offices next to the AIL Herat office building is nearing completion; the structure is due to be finished by June this year. The new rooms will house the new TV Meraj station as well as provide space for classrooms for the new Yacoobi Private Women’s University which is in the planning stages.
The interior of the 4th floor, with all equipment for the TV station, is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2017. Staff will be working on purchasing the necessary equipment for the TV station and on hiring appropriate staff. Radio Meraj staff will be offering guidance on sourcing necessary items and people.
This is an exciting time for all at AIL as they see these private enterprises take root and flourish with a little assistance from them. Dr. Yacoobi believes that private enterprise much grow and be supported as a component of a balanced society. TV Meraj will operate with the same basic philosophy of reaching as many poor Afghans as possible with information on a broad range of subjects from health, education, elections and peace to building self- esteem, hopefulness and happiness.
“We are looking forward to starting to broadcast to people through television. We know people will be interested to learn about many things. We have a long list of topics we hope to produce programs about including: capacity building, democracy, computer use, programs for children, citizenship, news, drama and traditional Afghan music.”
Thank you for your continued interest. Please read our year end newsletter which is attached.
