“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies,” said Andy Dufresne played by Tim Robbins in a letter to his friend Red (Morgan Freeman) in the uplifting movie The Shawshank Redemption. He was talking about how hope keeps us going in the most difficult of times, carrying us through the storms of life in the anticipation of better, brighter days. For us at Reaching Hand all of you donors are our ray of hope which brings light to the children at New Home.
The New Building
On the 26th of August, We gladly laid the foundation stone of the New Home permanent home building for our children which we are hoping to complete the Phase II i.e the construction of ground floor which can accommodate 100 Children along with canteen, play area and recreational area by October 2016 tentatively according to the flow of funds. Attached below is the 3D final design.
The Children
All the children are doing well except for their naughtiness sometimes which is very common in childhood. They had 10 days’ vacation for the two main festivals in India the Dussehra and Diwali during which they got to visit a resort and also were visited by various visitors. They also engaged in making diwali lanterns (Photo attached) for Diwali sale at a mall and a corporate. They also had Sports meet conducted at New Home in honour of Uday Marty an Intel VP who tragically died in a mountaineering accident. The children had lot of fun. ( Photo Attached). The children were taken to STD Chartered Bank on study tour which was very informative to them, esp. the older children. (Photo Attached)
School Events
August is the time for competitions like singing, dancing, elocution, and painting. Some of our children did extremely well. In September children had Sports day at St. Michael`s .Our 21 children brought in 57 medals (29 Gold,21 Silver,7 Bronze) and Sneha, Sivaganesh and Praveena won Individual championship trophies in their respective categories. Thomba was adjudged as the Chess Champion of 2015. PRAVEENA WAS ADJUDGED AS THE INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION IN THE JUNIOR CATEGORY ( which means she has won 5 medals gold and silver in various athletic events). We could not help but scream as each of our children won prizes after prizes. Every achievement boosts the morale of the kids. As we see our children become leaders year after year, we are absolutely thrilled and we Thank God for the talent and abilities they are blessed with. A big thank you for your support which is indeed making a difference in the lives of our children and will continue too. Do continue supporting us and it would be great too if you could send us back your feedbacks and suggestions to with regards to anything about holistic development of children and how we can provide improved care to our children.
Best Wishes
