4 tones of essential supplies are delivered

PEACE WINDS KOREA providing essential supplies for Ukrainian refugees in Moldova

Peace Winds Korea has delivered about four tons of supplies and goods to the largest refugee shelter in the capital city of Moldova every week.

The shelter, in the capital city of Chisinau, provides accommodation for about 300 people. This is the only place where distribute the essential supplies for the refugees.

According to Reuters, around 300,000 people have crossed into Moldova from Ukraine since war broke out. More than 100,000 of them have stayed in Moldova. (By Alexander Ratz, March 13, 2022, Reuters). Even there are 45 shelters in Moldova, there is only one shelter distribute the essential supplies for Ukrainian refugees.

Countless more refugees are staying at other locations in the city and use it as a collection point for food packages and other essential items such as clothing.

Peace Winds staff are working in Moldova to assist the refugees and today they purchased a large amount of goods from the Metro supermarket and delivered it to the nearby shelter using a tractor and large trailer provided by Chisinau City Hall Council.

Items donated to the refugee shelter include a large refrigerator, a microwave oven, 1,200 bags of rice, 1,200 bags of pasta, 600 cartons of apple and orange juice, 50 packs of nappies/diapers, 50 cartons of powdered baby milk and large quantities of shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Boris is the Head of the Directorate for Health and Social Protection Assistance with Chisinau City Hall Council and he said Peace Winds “is doing a great job here and I want to say they are very efficient”.

“They provide really immediate support with basic needs, so called critical support in assisting refugees from Ukraine and I have had a good interaction with the people from Peace Winds Korea,” Boris said.

“We formulated or identified a list of basic critical needs initially and they immediately provided all requested items and today we are very happy to receive all of them.

“This means there is some basic needs for the kitchen for the refugees like a fridge, a thermos for hot water and also different food products.

“I was very pleased to work with Peace Winds Korea,” Boris said

They are doing everything from the first second, being very efficient and less bureaucratic, an immediate response to all our needs. It has been a pleasure.

Ukrainian woman, Inga, fled her hometown of Mykolayiv with her mother and daughter. She was lining up with other refugees at the shelter when Peace Winds delivered the donations today.

They are staying in a flat with a host family in Chisinau but eventually hope to move to the Czech Republic.

We stay in a flat with local people and they provide us with food, and they come here to the refugee shelter to get some clothes because we only have the clothes we had with us at the time,”

My daughter is now much better here because it is safer here and people are very friendly and help us.

Standing next to the trailer as the goods were being unloaded, she was very appreciative of the work being done by Peace Winds to assist the refugees.

“I think the people who try to help it is a very good mission and many people now stay without food, without clothes, without homes so that is very helpful and thank you very much that you provide this help for us,” she said.

Peace Winds supports refugees and their pets!

Peace Winds Korea have been supporting Ukraine refugees in Moldova. We keep explore what can support their life. Among the refugee, many haves Dogs and cats as their family. They are not abandoned them even in war situation, because they are family too. Today, we would like to share how we support those families.

It is not only people affected by the war in Ukraine.

Peace Winds Korea has ensured that cats and dogs in the biggest refugee shelter in the capital city of Moldova do not go hungry. Earlier this week, Peace Winds heard the story about two sisters and a young child who survived a difficult journey from Odessa to Chisinau with their 11 cats.

The Head of Chisinau City Hall Council Health and Social Protectorate, Boris Gilca, told Peace Winds's Communications Director how the family and their cats had to be moved to a special room to accommodate them and their pets at the shelter.

March, 25 Peace Winds organised a trip to the nearby supermarket, that Peace Winds visited on Tuesday, to buy about four tonnes of supplies for the refugees. This time he bought a large supply of cat and dog food for the animals at the shelter.

When we knocked on the door of their small room, filled with inquisitive cats, the two sisters told us about the trouble they had to get to Moldova.

“We only have three carry cages for our 11 cats and we had to walk for five kilometres to cross the border and then we waited in line to cross,” she said.

“Somebody gave us a ride in their car for the last kilometre which was a happy moment.

“We left Odessa at 8am and crossed the border at 10pm,” she said. It is normally a one hour drive.

The room may only be small but the cats seem to like it more than being squashed into three small cages.

The food we gave the sisters is enough to feed the cats for a number of days and more supplies have been left in the storage room at the shelter.

10 year-old Sasha left Kharkiv with her mother and two small dogs, Max and Kirra. She said Max is the cutest. We met her in the room she is staying in at the shelter and she eagerly accepted the dog food Peace Winds gave her.

Sasha told us that her Grandmother decided to stay in Odessa and look after her two cats, rather come with them to Moldova.

Another lady Peace Winds met today with a dog named Juta, is from Nikolaev and they left on March 12. She was also pleased to take the dog food Peace Winds staff offered her. In the afternoon, Peace Winds staff also assisted a church group, based in Chisinau, that was buying a large trailer load of food and other essential supplies from the supermarket.

Peace Winds staff helped select and load the supplies. It will be taken across the border, where rigorous checks are made, and into Odessa to be distributed.

The Korean Church Pastor who works with Peace Winds Korea said the 1.5 tonnes of food will only be enough to last for three days for refugees.

There are still many things needs for Ukraine refugees.

Hello.

I arrived in Kishinau, the capital of Moldova, and it was morning (08:33 AM).

The atmosphere of Kishinau is no different from normal daily life. It's calm here. Young people are busy enjoying entertainment until late at night, and a couple of words can give you a glimpse of tension, but it doesn't form an atmosphere that hurts your daily life.

Moldova, known as Europe's poorest country, is full of talented young people with a high level of social welfare (marriage, childbirth, childcare, labor, etc.) / pride of being a member of Europe and a high level of education due to the influence of the Soviet Union.

They discuss the issue of unification with Romania, which is friendly, and explain the country's corruption as an alternative.

Andrei, an elite young man who worked as a bureaucrat in the Moldova government, came to meet me while I was traveling from Bucharest, Romania, to Kishinau here.

He was convinced that Moldova would be attacked by Russia someday. Having an eight-month-old son, he is one of a million people who have citizenship in both Moldova and Romania, and once that happens, it is said that Romania is the place to avoid.

Moldova's everyday language is Romanian, but it is a common Russian-speaking country among Eastern European countries because it is mainly Russian in the mass media. I could also see the pride of being a country that is better at positioning how to behave in the middle of the country than other Eastern countries are given various roles in the middle.
