Hello,
This is Dinora, a representative of Peace Winds Korea. I would like to share with you the latest news from the center and some memorable content from a refugee interview recorded by Simon, a member of the Peacewinds filming team.
Currently Patria Lukoil refugee center hosting 100 people from Ukraine. A few refugees got there visas accepted, and left the shelter.
- 65 adults
- 35 children
- 61 female
- 37 male
A few weeks ago there was an incident in the center. Roof drainage was got blocked during heavy rains. Water leaked trough the sealing provoking damage, some ceiling fell down. We were lucky nobody was there at that time. Drainage was cleaned no problem since then. And the ceiling is repaired by the Municipality of Chisinau, Moldova.
About a month ago many power plants in Ukraine were bombed. And because the power plants are connected to Moldova (Moldova uses Ukraine electricity plant), electricity was cut off throughout Moldova for almost 4~5 hours. Fortunately after a while, it was restored, but the electricity was unstable. The overall situation of center is currently stable. No more black outs since then. But Peace Winds Korea is considering funds for purchasing electric generator for the shelter in case if black outs will repeat. Because without electricity heating the shelter will be a problem. As soon as all documents for overseas remittance is ready, we will transfer the necessary funds to the center.
First let me briefly talk about what I feel while watching Simon's video of refugees’ life of the center. Until now I heard a lot about the shelter people from Vladimir, manager of shelter, and I read all interviews from our business trip to Moldova this year. And the people from the center became so familiar to me, as if I've known them for a long time. I‘m happy every time when I see them in Simon's videos. So, I want to continue to share various news in the hope that many people will know about their story.
So let me tell you about Nadi. Nadi is the University student and currently taking online classes to obtain teacher's license. She arrived to the center with her father and she said they were waiting for a bus to Germany. Her mother is waiting for them in Germany and she wants to move to Germany as soon as possible since she hasn't seen her mother for 4 months. Since her interview took place in October, it is likely that Nadi met her mother and they are safe. I really hope so.
When Simon asked about her dream at the time of the interview, she said, “To become an independent woman”. At that time as a refugee she was receiving help from many people and maybe the reason that she gave such an answer was her refugee position? Nadi said that her dream is to become a woman who able to take responsibility for her study, for her own life and for everything in the future. In the video you can feel that she was exhausted from life in evacuation, but she was trying hard to cheer herself up talking about dream and future. I think I could understand her feelings, and that’s maybe because she's in the same age as me. I really hope that very soon the peaceful and joyful life will return to all refugees like Nadi as soon as possible. That all for now. I will back with another story from refugee center. Thank you for reading and also for your support!
The weather is very cold these days, take care of yourself!
Gratefully yours,
Dinora (Peace Winds Korea)
