It is now May and the weather in Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine, is finally becoming spring-like.
The construction of the General Welfare Center, which began in March 2023, is now in its third year. After overcoming difficulties such as soaring material costs and the drafting of construction workers due to the worsening war situation, the center is now nearing completion along with fresh greenery.
Interior work was almost completed in May, and the interior of the Center looks much nicer than when construction began.
During June and July, the Contractor will begin finishing the exterior and parking space, and construction will be completed. After that, we will work with our partner organization, the Greek Catholic Church (Caritas), to bring in kitchen equipment and work with church members on decorations and gardens, with the goal of starting operations of the General Welfare Center in September.
We will continue to work hard in the last spurt, dreaming of the day when the General Welfare Center will become a place of exchange and healing for the more than 20,000 residents of Berehove, Zakarpattia, as soon as possible.
