Single mother: Our Educare Mother (renamed for privacy), Aged 35
Paralyzed father: Father (renamed for privacy) 38
Daughters: 1st daughter (renamed for privacy), 13 years old daughter
2nd daughter (renamed for privacy), 10 years old daughter
Exceptions are confirming the rules, and this family is an exception in as much as there is a paralyzed father living with this family.
The narrative: Our Educare Mother (renamed for privacy) belongs to the innumerable girls and women in Nepal who are living in poverty and are frequently deprived of the most basic needs. For them, hunger: the most painful sting inflicted by poverty, is a painful reality as is all the injustice and discrimination that stems from food-scarcity.
She was born into a poor, landless farmworker’s family and their life was all about survival. Despite the odds that she was facing she managed with insistence and perseverance to attend school up to grade ten.
When Our Educare Mother (renamed for privacy) reached the age of 19, and as costume has it, her parents arranged her marriage to Future husband (renamed for privacy), aged 22. To Educare Mother (renamed for privacy)’s surprise her husband proved to be a very kind and gentle man and soon the couple fell in love. Father (renamed for privacy) was a bulldozer operator and a hardworking man and for the first time in her life Our Educare Mother (renamed for privacy) enjoyed three square meals a day, nice clothes and comfortable housing. In short, they were happy!
Three years into their marriage Our Educare Mother (renamed for privacy) gave birth to a baby girl named 1st daughter (renamed for privacy) and three years later to another girl named 2nd daughter (renamed for privacy) and they rejoiced a harmonious family-life. But their destiny had it other ways!
One day Father (renamed for privacy) had an accident while working and he had severe spine injuries. Despite several operations Father (renamed for privacy) remained paralyzed from the waist down and from this day he was confined to stay at home unable to move. With all their savings spent on hospital bills and with the sole bread earner unable to work the family found themselves in dire straits. Our Educare Mother (renamed for privacy) gave all her energy and determination and she worked as hard as she could, but ends would never meet. Food insecurity again, no money to pay the school fees, stationery and uniforms for their daughter’s; life was grim and they became desperate.
A social worker brought the case to “BEF” and our selection committee decided to take this family under our wings and make sure that their basic needs are met and the girls are provided a proper education.
For four years we are caring for this family and now they are a happy family again and this despite all the adversities and tragedies they had to face.
For them, our support is making all the difference and we in turn are inspired by the new found spirit of hope, courage and gratitude that this family is manifesting.
This is yet another example of the deep impact your donations are making in the lives of our beneficiaries.
Thank you all for your trust and your generous support!
It’s simple, It’s simply BEF
With kindest regards,
Surendra, Raymond & TEAM
