As children return to school amidst a confirmed Ebola outbreak in the country, our support must urgently adapt to address both educational continuity and public health safety. The primary goal remains to keep children learning, but this cannot be achieved without robust infection prevention measures on school grounds.

To this end, your support is critical in two parallel areas. First, educationally, funds will ensure the resumption of basic learning activities, including the provision of essential scholastic materials such as exercise books and pens, allowing children to rebuild lost study time. Second, and most pressingly, we must respond to the health crisis. Schools are high-risk transmission zones due to close contact among children. We therefore require immediate resources to procure and install handwashing stations, along with a steady supply of chlorine-based detergent or alcohol-based hand sanitizer. This will enable students and staff to regularly decontaminate their hands, significantly reducing the risk of virus transmission.

Preventive hygiene is currently our strongest defense. Without these supplies, schools risk becoming epicenters of spread, undermining both education and community health. Your support will directly fund the distribution of hygiene kits, conduct short safety briefings for teachers, and ensure every classroom has access to proper washing facilities. By integrating health safeguards into the school reentry plan, we protect children, their families, and the wider community, allowing education to continue safely during this outbreak. The recent Ebola outbreak confirmed in Uganda, coupled with the persistent risk within neighboring communities, has created an urgent public health challenge. As our children prepare to begin their second school term, we recognize that schools are not just centers of learning—they can become epicenters of viral transmission if left unprotected. At Mwanyagiri Primary School, where a large portion of our community’s children study daily, the absence of basic infection prevention tools puts every child, teacher, and family at risk.

We are committed to immediate, on-the-ground action. Our plan is to equip Mwanyagiri Primary School with essential protective resources: hand washing stations, virus-effective detergents (such as chlorine-based solutions and alcohol-based hand sanitizers), and durable water tanks to ensure a consistent supply of clean water for proper hygiene. These three elements form a proven barrier against Ebola transmission through physical contact and contaminated surfaces.

Your generosity can make this plan a reality. With your support, we will install multiple hand washing points at all school entrances, classroom clusters, and latrine areas. We will train teachers and student health monitors on proper hand hygiene and detergent use. The water tanks will guarantee that hand washing does not stop when piped water runs low—a common challenge in our setting.

We are seeking funding to cover procurement of 500-liter water tanks, a three-month supply of detergents, and hand washing stands. Every contribution, large or small, directly translates into a safer desk, a cleaner hand, and a life protected.
