Keep her in school

This initiative to enroll a school dropout into a vocational school through the school reopening support program is a powerful step toward breaking cycles of poverty and exclusion. Building on that, I would add a focus on wraparound support services. Enrolling her is vital, but retention and success require more. Many teenage mothers face childcare gaps, transportation barriers, and emotional stress. I would propose establishing a small on-site childcare cooperative where vocational students take turns caring for children during class hours, paired with a mentorship buddy system—an older female graduate from the same program who can offer guidance and encouragement.

Additionally, flexible class schedules (e.g., allowing makeup hours on weekends) and a modest stipend for materials and transport could remove practical hurdles. Crucially, the vocational school should offer a "mother-friendly" trade—such as tailoring, hairdressing, or catering—where she can later work from home or set her own hours. Finally, linking her to a peer support group of other young mothers in the program would normalize her experience and reduce isolation. This holistic approach transforms enrollment from a symbolic gesture into a genuine pathway to economic independence and dignity. Equipping children with solar lamps is one of the most direct ways to break the cycle of poverty. For millions of kids without reliable electricity, studying after dark means relying on toxic kerosene lamps or smoky candles—hazards that damage young lungs and pose constant fire risks. A solar lamp changes that: it offers clean, bright light for evening homework, allowing a child to read, write, and learn just like any other student.

Yet, despite the proven benefits, far too many children remain unserved. Current programs, while impactful, reach only a fraction of those in need—especially in rural off-grid communities. We urgently need more support to expand this effort. Scaling up means not only distributing more lamps but also ensuring durable designs, replacement parts, and local maintenance training. Governments, NGOs, and private donors must step forward with funding and logistics.

When a child receives a solar lamp, it’s more than a tool—it’s hours of study reclaimed from darkness, improved health, and a tangible boost in confidence. Every lamp can serve a family for years. But without greater investment, countless children will continue to fall behind simply because the sun sets. Let’s commit to reaching every last child.
