Thank you for your donations! Due to your generous contributions, Enseña Perú has been able to keep growing and reach more student. We have some amazing news and we want to share the story of Felix:
At the school 82679, in Hualgayoc, Cajamarca, a group of students has decided to transform their district. When Félix Morales, second-year Professional of Enseña Perú, arrived to this area he found beautiful landscapes, lagoons and rivers. But, he also realized that the conservation of these resources were not adequate. In the classroom, he saw a lot of interest from his sixth grade students on this topic, so he started to raise awareness about the environment with them, to then get this message to the whole school and the community.
Felix began by doing small activities with his classroom. First, for the anniversary of the school, instead of renting costumes, they made them owns using old boxes, creating robots. For Mother's Day, they made vases with recycled materials, giving each of their students the freedom to make the design they liked the best. In this way, Felix began to create among their students the desire to do more for their community. After a debate they decided to create a project called "Recycle, Reduce and Reuse".
The planning of the project was long and they started getting to know the place that would be impacted. They visited, for example, the lagoon "El Dique", where they could see all the trash. After this experience, they developed a strategy based on having presence in social networks, a program in the local radio and posters in all Hualgayoc. These posters, made with recycled wrappings, would be located in strategic areas so people will not throw trash in the streets, rivers and lagoons. In addition, in order to make the school more environmentally friendly, mini greenhouses were made with plastic bottles and old tires were collected to make pots.
What started as small activities performed by the sixth grade classroom, ended up being the project of an entire school. Students, teachers and parents were invited to participate through speeches inside and outside the school, creating an interest in even the district municipality. In this way, from different groups, Felix project is promoting a change in environmental awareness that will, in the long term, allow the preservation of the resources of this community.
