Help Revolutionize Education For Peruvian Children

Knowing Enseña Peru is an experience of great significance for me both as a person and as a professional; but it goes beyond what I had originally thought; since it is impossible to describe in words what I feel, right now I try to express what it means.

I feel that the words do not cover the meaning I intend to give, the emotion overwhelms me, and I want to establish a sequence of order and importance for each space lived here; but it is difficult, and if it did, it seems to me that it would leave many aspects so rich and valuable in this Bethany retreat house in Callao, and that would not be fair or exact. At this point, at the end of my first week, there are many internal experiences that have aroused in me in this unforgettable encounter with such special people, who at the beginning were totally unknown, they meant at the beginning of all this, a mystery for me .

Many ideas crossed my mind when I arrived, I saw many children singing and encouraging, they infected so much joy, so much enthusiasm that they drew a smile on my distrustful face. Once we were under the unit that brought us, every detail of the reception was important, not only they seemed happy people, they really were! Some people saw the promotional video of Enseña Perú that shows the achievements of "The Guides of the Tunsho" and they were happy saying so happy phrases that they did not know me but they already loved me ... although for me it was so special because until that moment I had not been able see that video, which I could only observe on my first outing on Friday night in an internet booth and I was so excited by the result that was presented in that video; which described many passages of my life in Suitucancha, where I have been working for almost 10 years.

After seeing the children of the Fernando Belaunde Terry School, with a batucada, I wanted to see the way to learn it to teach it to my students soon. The first moments were of great joy and joy, but as the activities and workshops went on, it became a space of closeness and sincerity. The great task of discovering ourselves began between uncertainty and distrust. Above all, the leadership workshops were and are areas of great growth and personal development, the activities, disconcerting and uncertain, initially became close and emotional as they could not. This was really necessary, I can not imagine another way to enter into an internal dialogue with each of the participants and today PEP happy, proud and motivated to the bone. It was necessary to empty those vessels in order to fill them with a new wine. Yes, it is a difficult task I know, but it is not impossible, here I will be at the bottom of the canyon, as they say, until I burn the last cartridge, renewed by the quality education for my students.

I want to continue connecting with Enseña Peru, with each formative process. I also know that the challenge of the passion for education is not so much something empty or cliché, each one of us is in full and frank process of making the leap; that jump that before was to go to rest, jump to sleep to the bed or go to entertain us without sense the weekends; we are here, many without clearly understanding a new role, a new role like that of being teachers, but there with the pure energy that bright young professionals have as a light in the morning. That's how I am at the end of my first week. This is INVE 2018, 9th promotion, the previous one, where we are already classified, a new panorama is foreseen and with faith we are going for more.

Small actions to change the world

Thank you for your donations! Due to your generous contributions, Enseña Perú has been able to keep growing and reach more students. We have some amazing news and we want to share the story of Max with you:

"I feel very excited to have achieved things that I never thought I could do. Every person with whom I have spoken gave me more security to have a clean beach." said Max, a high school student of our professional, Iván.

"Clean Beach" is a project that was born when students in the district of Chao, Piura, discovered that the beach they used to go since they were children, had been completely covered with rubbish that the rains, landslides and floods brought with them during the summer of this year. The beach had lost its charm, its vibes and above all, its reason for being: a meeting point for all the inhabitants of the area.

Max and his friends organized to change this reality and recover their beloved beach. With the help of their relatives and neighbors, they managed to execute several tasks to clean the area. But for Max that was not enough, he felt he could do much more. Thanks to his perseverance and his conviction in himself and in the people around him, he decided to go to the authorities in his district for support.

The municipality of the district, not only supported the project, but also ordered an excavator to remove all the remaining trash of the damaged beach!

At the end, a total area of 7,800 m2 was cleaned. This number were determined by all the students through the knowledge they acquired about composite areas in their geometry course.

"It keeps me motivated and happy to know that Max started conversations with so many people, mobilized so many with only one objective and that, thanks to his leadership and persistence, managed to get the beach back in a few days under the best conditions" said Ivan to us.

The next President of Peru

In 2012, almost 6 years ago, Kimberly’s family moved to Cerro Colorado in Arequipa. There, she started school at the Villa Magisterial. Her first day of school was very special because it was a new place, new friends and new tasks.

When she got to the first grade classroom, a young lady with a very warm smile was waiting for Kimberly at the door to give her a big hug as a welcome. She was the teacher Flor, who tough them to add, subtract, read and write with tons of patience and motivation in the moments the class said they could not do or achieve something. Flor talked a lot with the parents, explained them the things they had to support at home and how they could teach more things to the kids.

As the kids knew that their teacher was part of Enseña Perú, an organization that invites all professionals who wish to support children to have access to education and be better people, they also find out that Silvana, also part of the organization, was going to be their next teacher for the 2014 and 2015 period.

As a very loving and kind person, Silvana took the class to several places to visit. Also, they understood that not everyone learns the same way so that wasn’t a reason to separate people form the group rather to support them and, they learned how to differentiate between they wants and needs. The kids notice that they were 2017 class so they should work to be better students: creative, loving, peaceful and autonomous ones.

In 2016, Elvira arrived and kept working on the project the school already had: taking care of the environment, responsible adoption of the animals, and more. For the animals campaign, Kimberly’s classmates visited one of the biggest TV channels in Lima to invite all people to adopt animals responsibly and not to buy them on the streets.

She staid only one year and, in 2017, Christian arrived to the classroom. The kids already knew him from a math project that leaded them to the National Mathematics Competition on 2016 where Kimberly had the 16^th place in the south level. Because of those results, the class is going to work with the High Potentials School in order to be a better community and to be more developed in and outside class.

This is their last year of elementary school, so Kimberly told us that the group wants to do all the activities super good, they are giving their best, knowing new places and people, having difficult moments but also great ones.

“Today I talk much more with my parents about what happens to me and they are much more aware of what I do and like. All that makes me surer that my dream of being a civil engineer is closer. Also, I want to be the next President of Peru, I am sure that if I have the opportunity, I won’t lie and would seek to help the people who need it the most.” - Kimberly.
