Children of Julcan :: Starting 2015

By Deborah Revilla | Deborah Revilla

Thank YOU for changing my life <3
Thank YOU for changing my life <3

THANK YOU for your generous donations! The children of Julcan sponsored by you have had a life changing start of year!

  • We started the year with 67% of our students with an academic delay of between 1 and 2 years. By the end of the first two months only 29% kept this academic gap.
  • Now, more than 60% of students in the region are at the level of study they should be according to their age. At the beginning of the year, we only had 33% at that level.
  • Furthermore, there are 8% of children that are at the level of accomplishment comparable to the best student’s results of Peru, compared to the 0% that we had at the beginning of the year.
  • We started the year with 92 % of our students with an academic delay in Maths of between 1 and 2 years. By the end of the first two months this percentage droped to 17%.
  • *Check the two charts which are attached.

However, academic accomplishment is not the main issue to succeed in life, that’s why we also consider very important that they improve their self-confidence and other social abilities, which we work at the same time as the academic part.

During this first two months we had also worked 3 other type of activities

  • Computer classes: In the first two months it has been offered computer classes and occasionally we have gone to the city to learn to use the internet and find resources for classes.
  • Reinforcement classes: specifically in the area of mathematics, taking as a starting point the achievements and difficulties of the students. (You can see how it reflected on their academic results.)
  • Participation in an Gastronomic Fair: In May, the school participated in a food Fair with dishes based on potatoes. This activity has been used to create a meeting point in the evenings with the mothers to teach them how to prepare the dishes and the nutritional value of each one of them, as they will be the protagonists of this festival and will expose their dishes. Also it has been reinforced the importance of maintaining a balanced diet at home.

What do you think? Can we help this little children to continue their road to success? Can they keep improving their academic results? Can they acknowledged the social skills to become the best versions of themselves?  We believe it’s possible. And that’s why we keep on working every day at Julcan. Thank you very much for providing us the chance to transform the life of this children through education!
