HOPE's Annual Report is In!
By Ashley Pugh | Program Officer
Dear HOPE Supporter,
Thank you for your continued support in helping us feed 150 of our patients in great need. Please find attached HOPE's 2013 Annual Report, which details our achievements last year. You will learn just how many patients we saw last year, what the highest diseases and conditions we treated were last year, and read about our specialized projects. Your support in providing food to hospital patients not only serves our day-to-day in-patients but also provides food to our patients involved in special camps such as our cleft lip/palate and obstetric fistula repair camps. The work done last year will serve as benchmarks for us to surpass in 2014. All of this work was made possible by donors like YOU, and we could not be more thankful. Please take a look at the work you made possible, and the lives of those you have changed forever.
Sincerely,
Ashley Pugh

Your Help is Greatly Needed

Patients YOU Supported
Dear HOPE Supporter,
Thank you for your valuable donations to providing food for patients at HOPE Hospital. As HOPE does not turn a single patient away and will bear the cost of medical treatment for patients unable to pay, these same patients are unable to afford food during their hospital stay either. As we are caring for an increased amount of admitted patients, our need for your help is even greater. In just the first two months of 2014, HOPE provided care to 2,198 individuals in great need. These numbers are comprised of out-patient, in-patient, surgery and delivery. Many of these patients were served free of charge but the hospital needs additional support to fed them. Proper nutrition is essential to healing, and therefore cannot be dismissed out of the treatment process. Please help us continue to provide our patients with the care they need.
Best Regards,
Ashley Pugh

Feeding the Smallest Ones in Need

![Tareque Before His Incredible Surgery]()
Tareque Before His Incredible Surgery
Dear HOPE Supporter,
Due to our fantastic partnership with Smile Train, HOPE Hospital is conducting an increased amount of cleft lip/palate surgeries for children who's lives are about to change. When these patients arrive to our hospital, their families cannot afford food. Cleft Lip/Palate is a consequence of poverty, one that occurs in families who received little to no education and cannot afford proper antenatal care services while the mother is pregnant to prevent such a disability in her child. These families travel long distances to have their children receive the life-changing surgery they deserve and are spend all they have on transportation. Please help us feed patients like Tareque and enjoy his incredible story.
Tareque, a 3-year old boy from Chakaria was born with cleft lip and palate. His parents were unaware of the importance of folic acid for the mothers during pregnancy. Tareque was kept hidden away from other children and his relatives due to the terrible stigmatization and embarrassment his parents felt. His father believed the deformity arose from the lunar eclipse. Tareque’s parents knew his deformity could be repaired and attempted to take him for surgery at Chittagong Lion Hospital but due to transportation-related issues, Tareque missed his surgery. His parents had heard about HOPE Hospital and their specialization in repairing cleft lip and palates and immediately registered him for surgery.
Tareque’s surgery was a success, and his parents bring him to social functions with no hesitation! They are so delighted about the results from the surgery and say they cannot wait to see him grow up with a beautiful smile. Tareque’s Father believes that if they hadn’t taken Tareque to HOPE Hospital for surgery, their son would have grown up resenting his parents for lack of action. Now the family is happy and looking very much towards the future.
