Community Service - Care for the Elderly
Parent-child volunteers of the Association paid a visit to an elderly centre of Banyan Elderly Services Association to bring games and joy to 30 elderly persons. In a way to cultivate positive and healthy personality of cleft lip and palate children, 13 members, their parents and several volunteers participated in this community service. Our Community Caring Team played games, sang, performed plate spinning and distributed gift packs to the elderly persons. The event successfully concluded with a joyful song sung by our young members and the elderly. They all had a great time that day.
School Promotional Activities
The Association carried out promotional activities at Ling Liang Church E Wun Secondary School, Maryknoll Convent School, Lok Sin Tong Primary School and Ling To Catholic Primary School. Our members and their parents gave sharing sessions at these schools, aiming to let students understand about cleft deformity, learn to respect and to enhance their understanding and acceptance towards cleft lip and palate patients. We felt very encouraging to receive some positive feedbacks from the students that they would not have learned about cleft deformity without attending the sharing sessions.
Outdoor Activities for Children
The Association co-operated with Rotaract Club of United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong to provide our young members leadership training through outdoor and classroom games, and to experience campus life at the University. These specifically-designed games were aimed to promote creativity and self-confidence, all of which could help cleft lip and palate children to develop skills for resolving conflicts and overcoming challenges.
