Summary

Help us build on the success of our first three years! We aim to raise $10,000 on Giving Tuesday matched 1:1 by loyal donors = $20,000. Your donation will continue supporting our Fellows and their work at the grass roots. We will go from the current 72,000 beneficiaries to nearly 100,000, improving the lives of women and girls through leadership, fellowship and education. We will also be positioned to open doors to the next level of corporate and foundation donors! With your help we can do this!

Challenge

129 million girls are out of school worldwide and 54% are in crisis affected countries; over 380 million girls live in poverty worldwide; 1 in 7 girls in developing countries marry before the age of 15; between 25 - 50% of girls in developing countries become mothers before the age of 18; gender inequity is a major cause of hunger and poverty - 60% of women experiencing chronic hunger. Empowered women and educated girls hold the keys to local, national, and global wellbeing. We support them.

Solution

When a woman in the developing world receives 7 more years of education, she marries 4 years later and has 2.2 fewer children. Women invest 90% of their incomes into their families, generating a powerful return on investment (men invest 30-40%). When a girl is educated through secondary school, she'll bring 25% more income to her family. According to Melinda Gates, "when we invest in women. we invest in the people who invest in everyone else."

Long-Term Impact

Long term impacts include increased participation of girls in primary, secondary and tertiary schools, increased understanding at the community level of the importance of girls' education, increase in leadership skills and confidence of the WC4E Fellows, increased impact of the Fellows as leaders at the local and national levels and increased solidarity within the WC4E Alumnae Network.
