Liberian Schools Temporarily Closed due to COVID-19

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Coordinator

Dear Project Supporters,

Your support is helping underprivileged children in Liberia stay in school, effectively learn, and get a decent education.  Unfortunately, all the schools are currently closed in Liberia as they are in many other places in the world due to the COVID-19 health epidemic.

As schools start to reopen, Liberrian students will need school supplies and school books, which your support will continue to provide. We know that investing in children's education is critical for a nation's development.

  According to UNICEF-

It is a struggle to get a good education in Liberia.  Liberia is significantly behind most other African countries in nearly all education statistics.

It has one of the world's highest levels of out-school children, with an estimated 15 to 20 percent of 6–14 year-olds who are not in class. Just over a third of preschoolers have access to early childhood learning programs and only 54 percent of children complete primary education.

Providing children with a quality education is fundamental to Liberia’s progress and prosperity.

Educating these future leaders in Liberia is giving them the ability to get out of poverty. We believe that education and training are transforming agents that are critical to human capacity building and to enhance the national capacity development.  Our vision for the future is to expand beyond the basic educational needs of the youths by providing high-quality vocational training whereby they can become fruitful citizens of Liberia and the world.

We thank you for everything that you are doing for the future leaders in Liberia;  your ongoing support will help with ongoing student and teacher needs in Liberia. We encourage you to start a monthly recurring donation here.  Even a few dollars a month will go a long way.  Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.

With great appreciation,

Amy & the Develop Africa Team
