Teaching and learning in times of pandemic

Dear donor, please accept our heartiest greeting. Your social awareness led you to our project to enrich the lives of all the members of the school.

Your support demonstrate you are conscious about education is one of the factors that most influences the progress of people and communities. In addition to providing knowledge, education enriches human culture, spirit and values.

These are hard times but “United we are Stronger”, better times will come !

The suspension of face-to-face teaching in our country, due to the isolation measures imposed by the Government to counteract the spread of covid-19, gave way to the implementation of virtual education at the school, following the guidelines of the Ministry of Education. Students and teachers, through the Classroom platform (virtual classroom) continued the educational curriculum from their homes. This new modality (distance learning) has represented a great challenge to the educational community, but fortunately the subjects have been taught without interruption, thus ensuring that the development of the school year is not disrupted. The technological training that we have been implementing in the school for years has played a key role in this process. Fortunately the students have laptops in their homes which had been provided a few months before by the Ministry of education, in recognition to the academic achievements of the school.

The school successfully concluded the 2019-2020 school year. Nowadays the parents, students, teachers and the administrative staff are eagerly preparing the 2020-2021 school year, which will begin on August 24, 2020. There are new challenges to face (health protocols, adjustments to the schedules and physical spaces and calendar of activities etc) due to the “new normal”. The registration and admissions process began in the first 15 days of June 2020 and will conclude in the first week of August 2020.

We have postponed the plans of roofing the bleachers of the basketball / volleyball court and the launching of the first Science Fair as well.

Promoting even more the co-curricular activities

Environmental Film Festival

Dear donor, please receive our heartiest greeting. Without a doubt, your contribution to this project plays a key role in helping to achieve the dreams of the young people living in the vulnerable communities of the tourist destination of Punta Cana.

We remain focused on providing them better life opportunities, to the students and all of the members of the Ann & Ted Kheel Polytechnic School in the community of Veron, through the improvement of this educational center.

Your support has made a great difference in this process !.

We are delighted to inform to you about the recent achievements:

In last November 22 students attended the exhibition of the film “Albatross” at the Puntacana Village, as part of the Environmental Film Festival sponsored by Funglode and Fundacion Grupo Puntacana. Please see the attached picture
In last November 26 students participated in a trip to Pico Duarte (the highest pick in the DR), coordinated by Fundacion Grupo Puntacana and Fundacion Siempre Mas. This type of excursion fosters discipline, self-esteem, determination and love for nature. Please see the attached picture
Chef Massimo Botura, one of the main icons of the gastronomy visited the school in the last November, we will never forget his energy and his inspiring words to the students. Please see the attached picture
Mrs. Inka Mattila, Representative in the DR of the United Nations Development Program, visited the school and greatly valued its achievements. Please see the attached picture
In the last January, the Roger Williams University taught a Photojournalism Workshop, in which 40 students learned the best practices in this professional field. Please see the attached picture
With great pride and joy, the National Independence Day was celebrated on the last February 27. The students performed dances, songs and acting. Please see the attached picture
In the last February 28, the Minister of Education of the DR Mr. Antonio Peña Mirabal visited the school. He and the executives of Fundacion Grupo Puntacana explored the possibilities of new agreements and alliances that positively impact the school . Please see the attached picture
In the last March 6, 25 students visited the Centro Leon (a cultural center) in Santiago city to enjoy the exhibition “Ser Oscar de la Renta” (Being Oscar de la Renta) a majestic and beautiful homage to his extraordinary legacy. Please see the attached picture

Celebrating the 15th anniversary

Dear donor, please receive a warm greeting. We would like to start our report by expressing to you our sincere gratitude. Your donation is making a huge difference in the vulnerable communities of the Punta Cana destination through the improvement of the educational quality of the Ann & Ted Kheel Polytechnic School

This and all the reports to follow will update you periodically on our progress and how your donation work in the community of Veron, eastern region of the Dominican Republic.

We are delighted to inform to you about the recent achievements:

We have continued the implementation of the Microsoft Certification Program for the benefit of 54 students (in this stage) , they are being trained in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and Powerpoint).
In the last August took place the closing ceremony of the internship program “All on Board” at the AVIAM company (airport ramp, on board service) and the CCS company (Caribbean Catering Service), located at the Punta Cana International Airport . The program was sponsored by the aforementioned companies, the Punta Cana International Airport and the Grupo Puntacana Foundation. 3 of the 12 participating students were rewarded for their high performance. Three female students performed on the last September at the “Fifth Punta Cana Poetry Festival” (at Puntacana Village), reciting their own poems. Also forty students participated in a “Literary Workshop” at the facilities of the school, which was taught by two Dominican poets. Please see the attached pictures
In the last October we celebrated the 15^th anniversary of the school, it was a very happy and emotional occasion. Please see the attached pictures
10 recent graduates concluded in the last October a two-month internship at Grupo Puntacana company (in the areas of Hospitality, Vehicles Fleet Maintenance, Human Resources, Industrial Laundry, Finance, Technology, Electricity and Water Supply, Purchasing) in order to complement the technical skills training provided by the school through the direct contact with the work environment.
