The fifth grade students have a story in
their English curriculum called “The Magic
Letter Story”. The story is about a letter
written by a child to their friend. That letter
would be read while keeping it under a
flame.

Indira and Rohini decided to explain this
to the students by the way of an activity.
The students were asked to write messages
on papers using lemon extract and then let
them dry. The messages on paper were
then kept under a candle flame so that the
message can be seen. The activity invoked
a lot of wonder and awe in the midst of
students, who were inspired to do more such
activities to learn techniques.
Creative methods like these are used to
teach children the concepts, by the way of
self-directed activities, hands-on and
activity-based learning. This gives the
students a strong foundation on the concepts
that they learn, and prepare them to
keep concepts and practices in memory
by the way of activities.
