Update on Kolkata Girls' Safehouse

Our four new girls
Our four new girls

It is nice to see our work expanding. This is in part because folk are giving via the GlobalGiving Project. We have just accepted a further four girls into our project which brings our total now to 20 girls.

These are children vulnerable to unscrupulous people wo play on the poverty of their families by making all sorts of financial offers if they allow their daughter to give with them to take up "work." Of course this problem of trafficking is further exacebated because the daughter wishes to help her parents and at the same time, it can be easy to trick the parents.

With some of the older girls, a boy might go into the villages and pretend that he loves their daughter and then she can be lured away to the city where he sells her.

We now have four girls studying at tertiary level including two who are doing a careers training course where one is majoring on the subject of education while another is studying Bangla. Please do remember these girls and particulalrly so when they attempt later on to to find meaningful and viable employment as schoolteachers.

Christmas time was wonderful for all of the kids because they had the opportunity to mix and have fun with so many other young people - all in a positive and happy environment.

We want to express our gratitude to you for the support of our girls and please be assured that our leaders there are working honestly and wholeheartedly to do the best they can to protect and develop the girls,
