Send More Girls to School!

Dear TPF Donors,

We express our heartfelt gratitude for your continuous support towards the education and empowerment of girls in Turkey. Through your unwavering commitment, more girls have been afforded the opportunity to pursue education, unlock their potential, and thrive as self-reliant and confident individuals, fostering optimism for their future.

On February 6th of this year, we were profoundly impacted by the news of two significant earthquakes in Turkey. Striking within a mere nine-hour span, these earthquakes resulted in extensive damage and loss of life across 11 cities in the Southeast region of Turkey. The seismic events had a far-reaching effect on the Turkish population, affecting approximately 14 million individuals. According to the United Nations, around 1.5 million people were rendered homeless in the aftermath of the disaster. The widespread destruction in the affected cities forced at least 3 million individuals to relocate to other parts of the country.

Over 4 million children have faced obstacles in obtaining education. About 254,000 students, impacted by the earthquake, have recommenced their studies in 71 provinces beyond the affected zone, with 11,064 of these students returning to the affected region. As a temporary measure, 2,026 learning spaces, including tents, containers, or prefabricated schools, were set up in the affected area.

Following the devastating earthquake in the Adana, Çukurova, Gaziantep, Hatay, Iskenderun, and Hatay regions, CYDD has been working tirelessly to support the affected communities. 

The assessment of the situation has revealed that 52% of these students' houses have been severely damaged, and 70% have had to leave their homes and seek shelter elsewhere. As a result, many of these students and their families are in urgent need of food, lodging, and clothing. To address this critical need, through CYDD we provided immediate cash assistance of 1,000TL (~$53) to 1,000 students and their families. This support were transferred directly to the students' accounts, which are already registered for scholarship transactions. 

Apart from CYDD's initiatives for young women in earthquake-affected areas, the organization also persisted in assisting young women through the TPF Stars Program. Thanks to the generous contributions of donors like you during the 2022-2023 academic year, 291 girls received academic scholarships, with 87 of them being provided with computers. Moreover, 60 girls were granted additional scholarships for accommodation to facilitate their ongoing education. Furthermore, the scholarships for 221 girls have already been secured for the upcoming academic year!

We sincerely thank you for your ongoing support for girls' education and empowerment in Turkiye. With your dedication, more girls have had a chance to continue their education, realized their own potential, and are thriving as independent and confident individuals and are hopeful about their future.

This year, on Feb 6th, we were deeply shaken by the news of two powerful earthquakes in Türkiye.The earthquakes that took place within a span of just nine hours caused extensive damage and loss of life in 11 cities located in the Southeast region of Türkiye. The earthquake had a profound impact on the people of Türkiye, affecting an estimated 14 million individuals. The United Nations has reported that around 1.5 million people were left homeless as a result of the disaster. At least 3 million individuals were compelled to relocate to other parts of the country due to the extensive destruction in the affected cities.

Access to education has been hampered for more than 4 million children. Approximately 254,000 students, who were affected by the earthquake, have resumed their education in 71 provinces outside the affected area. 11,064 of those students have returned to the affected region. To provide a temporary solution, 2,026 learning spaces were established in the affected region, consisting of tents, containers, or prefabricated schools.

In addition to the CYDD's efforts for young women in the Earthquake regions, CYDD also continued to support young women through TPF Stars Program. In 2022-2023 academic year, with the support of our donors like you, 291 girls were supported with academic scholarships in addition to 87 of them were given computers and 60 of them received extra scholarship for accommodation to continue their education. Additionally, 221 girls' scholarship for the next academic year has been guaranteed!
