Send More Girls to School!

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your continued support to this project. Your generous donations make the greatest impact in many lives of the young women you are helping send to school.

49.8% of Turkey’s population constitutes female population.  While the numbers of women who receive education have increased in recent years, the proportion of female illiteracy is higher when compared to male illiteracy.  As for high school graduates and equivalency, the number of females who are high school graduates constitutes a mere 14.4%.  

As you can see from these numbers, we have a long way to go to change the future of young women as well as our community.  This is why we need to continue supporting girls’ education. This means so much more than we can all imagine. Educated girls tend to get married at a later age and have fewer children.  According to a research, an educated woman will be more productive at work and is more likely to give back to her community. 

With your support for this project, we were able to send one more girl to school.   Her name is Fidan.  She is currently in 11th grade.  She is truly grateful for your support.  She also wants you to know that without your contribution, going to school would have not been a reality for her.

Your generous donations make a direct impact in the lives of girls such as Rusen. 

Rusen is a 16-year-old girl from the province of Dogubeyazit, Agri. She is currently attending IMKB Van Science High School.  She is grateful for your support and below is her thank you letter in her own words (translated from Turkish to English):

“After getting a high score of 160 on the State high school entry exam, I was able to get into one of the high ranking high schools in the Van province, IMKB Van Science High School. I am currently staying at a student dorm.  I have five siblings three of whom are in school. My father is currently unemployed.

I would like to get an education to be a beneficial individual to my family and my country. Ever since I started school, I have been studying very hard to accomplish my dream. I graduated valedictorian in my senior class. I did all this hard work to accomplish one goal – that is to become a medical doctor

My family has very limited income so I can’t depend on them to continue my education.  Last semester, I was not even able to purchase my books but with your help I don’t have to worry about purchasing my school supplies anymore. I appreciate and thank you for your support.  With your help, I am now able to continue my education and make my dream of becoming a medical doctor come true.”

Rusen is amongst the girls you have supported with your donations.  We are extremely happy to see girls like Rusen go to school and we would like to give more girls the opportunity to continue their education.
