Mangrove Plantation for Coastal Protection

Sundarbans mangrove forest is the lifeline and safe guard of almost 3.5 millions of vulnerable coastal people. It is a UNESCO declared the Natural World Heritage and RAMSAR wetland site. Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) is a motivated environmental development organization, working for conserving the Sundarbans mangrove forest and ecosystem as well as for the betterment of the coastal community. Riverbank erosion is a very common incident in the Sundarbans coastal region. So, to protect the coastal belt and restoration of mangroves BEDS aims at planting 100,000 mangrove saplings all over the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh. Target grant of the proposed project is 99,910$ and so far, 1,021$ is raised from 77 donations. We hope we will be able to implement our proposed Mangrove Plantation activities in near future with the help of the donors. People of Banishanta union under Dacope sub district of Khulna district in Bangladesh have been suffering from acuteness of riverbank erosion since last year. So, they are in a serious problem. Latest cyclone Bulbul caused damage to embankment of this union. BEDS is trying to help the affected villagers by providing them necessary advices and planting mangroves. This is our deepest appeal to the global community from the part of erosion vulnerable coastal people to help us for conducting the mangrove restoration and protection activities.
