Importance of mangroves cannot be described in terms of words. Mangroves are one of the most priceless natural assets of the world. It has huge input in ecosystem stabilization and livelihood generation. It is of incredible value in protecting the disaster vulnerable coastal households from natural hazards. BEDS (Bangladesh Environment and Development Society) is extremely focused on mangrove restoration and protection and has been conducting community based mangrove plantation and restoration since 2013. Currently, the organization is raising fund from GlobalGiving platform to restore mangroves in the Sundarbans periphery.Target grant of the proposed project is 100,000 $ and so far, 1,592 $ is raised from 109 donations.
In the last month and by this month, we planted around 5000 mangroves in different occasions with the spontaneous participation of the villagers. We used the saplings of our villagers’ nursery for plantation. We are always careful about the COVID-19 situation and we took initiative for social distancing of the participants. We provided them masks and also inspired them to keep their body clean. After the plantation, we delivered them the motivation to take care of the planted mangrove saplings and seeds. The participants responded positively and assured to protect their planted mangroves.
We are extremely grateful to all the donors for their support in this project so far. We believe that all our donors will be continuously standing beside us for the protection of nature and saving the coastal lives.

Yesterday we planted 200 more mangrove saplings on the bank (slope) of two ponds. Around 20 students and local villagers participated on that plantation activity. We planted Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Heritiera fomes, and Nipa Fruiticans species. We used the saplings of the prepared nursery of the villagers. Participants wore masks during plantation considering COVID-19 situation. The participants assured to take care of the planted mangroves.
We are absolutely thankful to all the donors for being so kind to us. We hope that you all will be continuously standing beside us for the protection of nature and saving the coastal lives.

We have already planted 2000 mangroves from this project with the active participation of local community. The planted mangroves are growing well day by day. A mangrove nursery has been established for further plantation activity. We have been motivating the community to take care of the planted mangroves. Due to COVID-19 situation, we are communicating with the villagers over phone and sometimes visiting the field directly.
We are absolutely thankful to all the donors for being so kind to us and we hope that you all will be continuously standing beside us to protect the nature and save the coastal lives.
