Funding Goal Achieved - thank you!

By Daniela Labra | General Director, AtentaMente

We are so very pleased to report that thanks to your generous and consistent support, we have achieved our funding goal for this project!

Through the program you funded, in just 12 weeks, the wellbeing and mental health of thousands of healthcare professionals grew and stayed strong and increasing for at least 6 months!

This is an amazing accomplishment that was made possible by YOU!

We invite you to continue supporting our work in emotional and mental health education at https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/educating-for-wellbeing/. We still need you to build resilience and emotional, social, and mental health for all. We cannot stop here!

How do we know this happened and that our program is indeed effective?

Most HPs face consistent stress and many daily challenges to their emotional and mental health. We knew our program worked to help them, but we needed gold-standard evidence to show for it.

So, between March 2023 and 2024, we enrolled 2,315 Healthcare Professionals (HP) from 762 healthcare centers across seven Mexican states. We randomly assigned them to groups to measure the effectiveness of our program: One group received the program, and one did not. This is the golden standard of assessments: a randomized control trial, like the trials used to test vaccines or other medicines.

The program we gave them was a digital well-being training program that consisted of nine 2-hour zoom sessions and 12 weeks of Healthy Minds Program smartphone app

The content of this “Comprehensive Program for Social and Emotional Wellbeing”  (PIBSE in Spanish) is based on the premise that well-being skills can be strengthened by developing four pillars of well-being: Awareness, Connection, Insight, and Purpose.

Through science-based content and tools, they applied contemplative practices, reflections, and self- and group inquiry, which gave them novel and effective ways to understand, reappraise, and healthily manage their stress, emotions, awareness, and relationships.

The rigorous science assessments and intervention were conducted remotely, and the efficacy of this digital well-being training in reducing Mexican Healthcare professionals’ distress and increasing their well-being was rigorously evaluated by highly respected academics at the Centre for Healthy Minds from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including Dr. Richard Davidson and Dr. Matthew Hirshberg. The results of this randomized control trial are inspiring: The program you support significantly reduced depression and anxiety. It also strengthened well-being, emotional regulation, and compassion, among other benefits.

Not only did this program help healthcare providers feel better and develop healthier habits of mind, but it will also help them better serve their patients. More so, this program can be effective in improving the lives of millions of HPs and their patients. Research like this will permeate the practice of medicine with healthy habits of mind and kinder ways to relate to patients and their ailments. We must persevere together to accomplish this!

We are deeply grateful for your contributions that made these amazing results possible for such a vital workforce.

If you are encouraged by our progress and the impact we are making in the world, wewould like to invite you to support another of our programs. Educating for Wellbeing uses similar concepts and training techniques to support the mental well-being of educators, their students, and the whole scholastic ecosystem in public schools.

By continuing your support for our efforts, you play a vital role in the development of the next generation in Mexico, and the people we trust to educate them. You can learn more about the efforts here:

Once again, thank you for your kind support!
