Recent context

By Gabriela Andronache | Project Leader

Romania is facing persistent challenges related to education inequality, youth unemployment, and skills mismatch, especially among adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds. In this context, targeted educational interventions, vocational guidance, and skills development programs are more critical than ever to ensure that young people can stay in school, make informed career choices, and develop competencies required for the future labor market.

The No Child Without Education project continues to respond directly to these challenges by providing tailored support to children and youth, helping them navigate educational pathways and build confidence in their abilities.

Vocational Orientation, Counselling, and Testing

January – February 2026

During January and February 2026, a total of 112 students aged 17–18 from Colegiul Tehnic Traian Vuia Oradea participated in a structured program of vocational orientation, counselling, and testing. The activities combined individual and group counselling sessions with vocational aptitude and interest assessments, offering students personalized guidance on educational and career pathways aligned with their skills, interests, and aspirations.

The intervention was designed to support students in their final years of secondary education as they prepare to make critical decisions about their future. For many participants, this program represented the first opportunity to engage in guided self-reflection regarding their abilities, preferences, and realistic options for further education or employment. Through professional support, students gained a deeper understanding of their strengths and were encouraged to approach their future with greater confidence and clarity.

As a result of these activities, students demonstrated increased self-awareness and motivation, clearer perspectives on their post-graduation plans, and reduced anxiety related to career decision-making. The program also strengthened their readiness to transition into higher education or the labour market. In a broader economic climate marked by uncertainty and elevated youth unemployment, such targeted interventions play a crucial role in preventing school dropout and supporting positive, informed post-graduation outcomes.

Intensive English Language Course

February 2026

In February 2026, an intensive English language course was delivered to 60 children and young people aged 12–18, responding to the growing need for language competencies among students from vulnerable backgrounds. The course focused on strengthening basic and intermediate English skills, improving communication and comprehension, and building confidence in using English in educational settings.

English language proficiency is increasingly essential for academic success, access to digital resources, and future employment opportunities. However, for many of the participating students, limited access to extracurricular education and private tutoring had previously hindered their progress in this area. The intensive format of the course allowed students to practice consistently and to engage actively with the language in a supportive learning environment.

By the end of the program, participants showed noticeable improvements in vocabulary and overall language skills, as well as greater confidence in speaking and understanding English. The course also contributed to increased motivation to continue learning and expanded students’ access to future educational and professional opportunities, helping to reduce disparities caused by socio-economic constraints.

As families struggle with rising costs and uncertainty, many children face increased pressure to abandon education prematurely or accept limited opportunities.

The demand for counselling, vocational guidance, and skills development continues to grow. Without sustained intervention, many young people risk being left behind — academically, socially, and economically.

We remain deeply grateful to GlobalGiving donors and supporters, whose generosity makes these vital interventions possible during such challenging times. Your support helps ensure that no child’s future is limited by circumstances beyond their control.
