Dear ARTS Foundation’s Project Supporters,

ARTS Foundation Pakistan feels immense pleasure to share with you the project’s first case/success study via GlobalGiving to update about the achievements made through your generous support to empower most vulnerable segments i.e. orphan girls living in remote areas of Sindh province of Pakistan.

Asma, a beneficiary of the project, pictured here, is an eighteen years old orphan girl who has benefitted through GlobalGiving funded project ‘Orphan Girls Empowerment through Vocational Skills Project’. She lives with her mother and three brothers in a small village near to city Mirpurkhas. Asma could not continue her education due to sudden death of her father; she has completed just class 8th. Indeed, she wanted to be a teacher but due to death of her father as an elder child of the family she could not make her dream true. She started working in homes at city along with her mother to wash clothes, clean utensils and press cloths. Asma along her mother used to spend at least 3 to 4 hours in a day and in return they get rupees 2200/month only.

ARTS Foundation team reached to Asma during a meeting held with Lady Health Visitors (LHWs) to identify most needy and interested girls to provide tailoring course to learn and earn better. In the first, by chance meeting she showed full enthusiasm to get enrolled to learn tailoring to earn well in a decent way.  And she proved herself by maintaining 96% attendance and learning full dress-making within two months course.

Talking about the training experience she said, this training not only enabled me to stitch the cloths but I would say, this training has stitched well my life and given me line to a full life. I am able to talk confidently with my clients and behave like a professional entrepreneur by putting fewer efforts in a decent way than my previous work with my mother. I am earning around more than rupees 500/day which means not less than rupees 12000/month. Now, my mother remains at home and supports me in my work as well and this helps me to feel and live happily.

Thank you very much for your interest and support for our project. Please feel free to contact me with any query, comment or idea at www.artsfoundation.org.pk.
