Dear Patrons,
We are very happy to thank you very much for all the support that you have provided so far for our Rwanda forestation project.
We are so excited to share with you the progress of sapling planting activities for the land one. We planted saplings at location Rwanda:7299+2X5. (Google Plus code). This area’s name is Taba cell, Colline Mwite village in Rulindo district of Burega sector, Rwanda. On Saturday, the 3rd of December 2022, we planted a total of 8000 saplings from September 1st –December 3rd December 2022.
We take this opportunity to thank students from Muyanza Primary school, Burega primary school, and Karambo primary school and their valuable and active participation in this forestation project. In this activity, from September till now around 100 primary school students have participated in tree planting activities and around 25 people around the trees planting area participated in the planting. 20 RWAYDAVO Volunteers and project workers helped in digging holes deep enough to cover the tree's root ball and to put the organic fertilizer. Then students would remove the root ball from the container and place the tree in the hole. It was amazing to see children doing such steps successfully! Students enjoyed the tree-planting activities. Rwandan Youth Development and Voluntary Organization Volunteers and leaders ensured that the activities happened as planned.
We would like also to let you know that the saplings we planted since September 2022 are growing well and none of it died due to any reason. This is because it is the rainy season. I would like also to let you know the trees we planted; 90% are Eucalyptus and 8% are Grevillea and 2 are indigenous trees). At the edge of Land 5, we have planted grevillea.
The planting of trees was also very much supported by the community leaders and the district leaders. They have also requested our organization to help in the reforestation of old forests located in the Rulindo district, now we have given land between 2 to 3 hectares where we will plan additional trees. I would also like to let you know that the children were very happy, and the planting activity was very enjoyable and supported by the community. Students are getting teaching sessions after the tree planting activities.
For fencing Land 5, we have started basic activities that will help us to construct fences. The detailed report will be shared next month after the planting of trees for land five has been completed. We will be using fencing the land because we want to protect the land in which the trees are planted from animals like goats, cows, and sheep, as well as from the disturbances caused by humans. After all these activities we will do maintenance to make sure our trees planted are growing well.
We need ongoing funds for the regular maintenance of the saplings and the land. The maintenance will require maximum care and supervision to make sure that trees are growing well. This activity will also include pruning the area properly to keep the trees healthy and strong, Water is food for our trees and plants – that’s why effective watering is one of the most important ways to care for and maintain, so watering might be needed during the dry season. Also, as soil compaction prevents water and oxygen from infiltrating the tree’s roots, we will make sure that the soil is not compacted. We will be doing mulch about 6 inches from the base of your tree so that we cannot damage the roots of our trees.
We request you to donate generously to our project so that we can keep working and achieve our goals. You could also consider doing a monthly recurring donation for our project, which will help us with our ongoing work. The link for the monthly recurring donation is mentioned below in the report.
We thank you for everything that you have done for our project, and we look forward to your continued support.
Thanks & Best Regards.
