Dear Patrons,
We are pleased to share an important milestone in our 50,000 Trees Project. Thanks to your generosity, we have successfully completed the construction of our new sapling nursery, and our team has already begun preparing the space for planting.
Photo Description:
The photo above shows a community member inside our newly built nursery carefully watering young saplings arranged in black plastic bags. The nursery is covered with shade netting supported by strong wooden poles, creating a protected environment for the seedlings. The planting bags are arranged neatly in rows, and the saplings are beginning to sprout; an encouraging sign that the nursery is ready for full production. This image highlights the hands-on work and dedication of our local team as they begin the first stage of raising 50,000 trees.
This marks the beginning of an exciting phase where the foundation for 50,000 future trees is being laid.
1. Why We Expanded the Nursery
Our previous nursery structure was too small to support the large number of saplings required for this project. To produce all 50,000 seedlings in a healthy and sustainable way, we built a bigger and more efficient facility suited for large-scale restoration work.
2. What the New Nursery Provides
The improved nursery now offers:
Enough space for all 50,000 saplings
Better shade protection to prevent heat damage
Improved ventilation and drainage for healthier growth
Strong wooden framing to withstand weather variations
A clean layout ready for planting bags and watering systems
3. Construction Highlights
During the construction phase, our team successfully:
Installed strong wooden structural posts and beams
Completed roof supports and shade netting
Prepared and leveled all planting beds
Organized the area to receive thousands of planting bags
The nursery is now fully built. The photo shows the team placing and watering plastic pots and preparing the soil for seedlings; an important step toward filling the nursery with life.
4. Next Steps
With the structure completed, we are now moving into the production phase:
Arranging the remaining planting bags
Beginning seed sowing
Installing watering lines
Setting up protective fencing around the entire site
5. Why This Matters
The new nursery is essential to the success of the 50,000 Trees Project. With this improved facility:
Saplings will grow in a safer and controlled environment
Seedling loss will be minimized
We will grow stronger, healthier trees
More land in the community will be restored with quality saplings
Your support is directly helping us restore degraded land, protect the soil, and improve the environment for future generations.
6. Appreciation
None of this would be possible without your generosity. Thank you for believing in our mission and for supporting a greener, healthier future for Rwanda.
With gratitude,
Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
President, RWAYDAVO
