Bring clean water to 100 villages in Tanzania

Thank you to your generous donations we are continuing to bring water to schools and clinics in Kigoma, Tanzania. 

This 

• Means students no longer have to walk long distances to fetch water each day, wasting time that could be more profitably spent studying.
• Health improves as people are no longer drinking unsafe water.
• Nutrition improves as schools can start watering crops in a school garden.
• Attendance improves as stomach infections decrease and girls no longer miss school during menstruation.

It is terrible that in 2023 people are still relying on dirty ponds shared with animals. We are doing all we can to rectify this. 

Thanks to the ingenuity of our local rep in Kigoma, Benedicto, we can provide a bore hole and rope pump for only £1500, transforming the lives of hundreds of people.

Each borehole  takes between 12 and 24 days of hard labour to drill so selecting the sites with the best chance of success is critical.  Therefore we are delighted to work with Imperial College – UK to pilot their Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) technology to identify sites.  We use this in our preliminary survey, together with studying the vegetation and rocks, talking to the local community and using copper rods.  This has made our work much more efficient. 

Since 1^st July 2022 to 30^th June 2023, we have finished 31 boreholes to 31 locations providing water to an average of 24800 people in Kasulu District. Most boreholes (90%) are located or stationed at educational institutions by which each school accommodates an average of 800 students while the remaining (10%) of the boreholes are located at the community’s centers where public access water.

This has many impacts including:

• Increased hygiene to school students especially girls and homes of the beneficiaries,
• Reduced walking distance and time to students and community to collect water from the long way streams, the time which is then used for other development works,
• Improved academic performance to students in schools we provided water access,
• Increased the ability of the schools to establish and manage gardens to improve nutrition,
• Generally, there are the improvements in lives as water is ensuring health stability to the user and bring happiness to families.

There are still many clinics and villages which arehighly in need of clean water for use. One borehole costs £1,500. Little by little; we can bring water to all of our community to ensure well-being and prosperity.
