As many of you know, our community center has been operating in the Julio Otoni favela for 15 years. Much has happened since, including a special makeover with an artist who painted a mural in the courtyard with fantastic animals for the children to be inspired and immersed in play.
After many years of use in a heavily humid area, being in the hills of Rio de Janeiro, the center was much in need of maintenance work, not only restoring the mural, but reinforcing the structures and redoing some of the walls and doors.
Over the past month and a half, we hired a team that looked at the qualiy of the structure and made much needed reforms. We also included the children in the restoration of the mural!
