The program is located in the neighborhood of Flores and is a care center for the elderly during the morning and then in the afternoon, the space transform in a safe place for children.
This program takes place on tuesdays and thursdays, and consists of local and international volunteers helping children with thier education and matters more difficult for them. The children work divided into groups to give them the most individualized attention possible, taking into account the age range and knowledge.
We work two major subjects, language and mathematics through the program books. Children have a snack time and a work time so volunteers can talk with them and let them express feelings and frustrations that sometimes with the routine of the school can be overlooked.
At the beginning you are only a source of knowledge or support for the kids but as time goes by, you are entering little by little into their life and bonding with them. After having gone through projects like these you reinforce even more the idea that children needs to be protected.
Whatever are the different situations and realities they have to live in their homes every day, when you are with them, you become a child defender. It's at that moment when you really realize your work there, and beyond the academic concepts you can transmit to them, you don't stop being a reference and a guide that helps them in their social process.
In this way, by helping the children you realize the importance of volunteering and begin to understand there are people who really need your help and commitment.
