Education is the right of every child however it has been seen by many that there are many children who are even having no knowledge about reading and are unable to even write their names. Most of these children are from the slum, nomadic and street as children at the slums and streets are busy in collecting garbage, working at shops, cleaning at homes etc. Due to all this, these children are unable to change their lives as they do not know much about education. RSKS India is having many programs for the welfare of the slum, nomadic and street children and Child Rights & Welfare is one of the focus area of RSKS India.
RSKS India team members organized Educational Camps For Slum and Street Children Program under which the slum and street children were taught about the basics of reading and writing so that every child could have the basic knowledge. These camps were organized at many slum and street locations with more than 200 slum and street children. In these camps, all the children were given chalk, pen pancil, rubber, note book and slates and delices food packets and then they were taught by the RSKS India team member as well as the interns of RSKS India through the help of one on one conversations, flipcharts, books, card sheets etc. After this, all the children were also given homework so that the next day they could prepare and learn something new. It was insured that every child must be able to read and write their names in both Hindi and English language.
All of the slum and street children who participated in the Educational Camps For Slum and Street Children Program were very happy as they got chance to learn something new which would benefit them throughout their life. Also the parents of these slum and street children were also very happy as their children got basic level education without paying any fees and without going anywhere. Some of the parents also told RSKS India team members that they would now send their children to schools as now their child know how to read and write. The interns also enjoyed educating the slum and street children and became familiar to the social work. This project received many blessings from the slum and street community and it was only possible through the valuable support of GG and generous donors.
