Patan CBR Organization has been working in the field of disability sector for the last 17 years. CBR program had been launched in 1995 as a Lady Jaycees program and in 1999 it has been established as a separate identity as an organization. The major target group is Children with Disabilities (CWDs). Nowadays, it is serving Youth with disabilities (YWDs) also. Till now, 1856 Children/Youth With Disability (C/YWD) have been served consisting of 41 different districts of Nepal. Our working area has expanded to the Nuwakot District, Kathmandu and 32 Villages Development Committes of Lalitpur District and Lalitpur municipality as well.
Patan CBR has been providing services in two sectors. One is centre based program and another is field based program.
Under the center based program:
Some of the services provided by our organization are day care facility, education, medicine distribution, counseling, assistive device distribution, physiotherapy, scholarship. Till now we are providing day care and education services to 55 C/YWDs.
Vocational service is one of the praiseworthy services of the organization. We are providing training to those C/YWDs, who are capable of doing work. These training includes envelop, candle making, incense, pop corn, cumin powder making, coriander powder making etc. We hope these types of skill development training helps them in raising quality of their life to some extent.
Physiotherapy service and counseling centre is another speciality of our organization. Providing these services with modern equipments to C/YWDs of CBR and out patients are really helping the CWDs freely and needy people of community with very low price.
We have been providing the school education program for CWDs since a long ago and we are dedicated to sending the CWDs in the mainstream education school after training them about the school environment for some years.
Patan CBR has been the destination of international volunteers since a long ago. The numbers of international volunteers per year reached to a maximum of 60.
Under the field based program:
Patan CBR has been working not only in the centre but also in the outside field. Under the field program home visit, training, orientation, advocacy, awareness, mass rally, medicine distribution, technical assistance to the Village Disability Rehabilitation Committee (VDRC) etc.
There is a growing demand of these types of programs from the outside community also. In this connection, we are planning to expand our services in Jhapa district if we can manage resource for it.
But all these services provided by Patan CBR organization are in stake now. Our major donor Save the Children Nepal Norway phased out its CBR project from 2010 onwards. SCN was bearing 63% of total expenditure including program during its support. Now we definitely need help from our well-wishers, donors to continue our support to the neediest and marginalized people of the community.
The field program which is one of the needy programs identified from the survey is now forced to cut off to some extent. If this program is not started immediately, the neediest and the marginalized group of community will be deprived from the basic rights like right to education, right to health, etc. and they will be forced to live idle in their home. If we get support in this regard, quality of their life will be raised to some extent and we hope it will be a big support for them.
With your support, for this project, we are very much excited that we can continue our services to the poor, needy and marginalized community group. Thank you very much for your great support to continue at least our centre based rehabilitation program for these Children with Disabilities.
Greatr thank you once again from my personal side , from our organization and from our children. Hope your help will continue for the days to come.
