Looking to the Future!

On October 26, 2019, Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia (HWHL) Board met for its annual meeting at First United Methodist Church in Richardson, Texas.  The annual meeting is an exciting time for HWHL, where the board meets face-to-face once a year, reviews ministry progress year-to-date, and most importantly, looks to the future. 

Looking to the future, a 5-year plan was unveiled at the annual meeting this year, which includes maternity and surgical buildings, a dental suite and Ultrasound unit to continue to provide the highest quality medical care to the people of Kakata, Margibi county, Liberia. 

This is an exciting time for HWHL as we look to the future.  January to September we have seen 4, 705 cases at the clinic.  We’ve also visited 36 – 37 communities, treated 1000 cases of anemia, provided prenatal vitamins to 8,265 pregnant women, supplied deworming medicines to 22,621 and provided Vitamin A to 3,302 patients.

As we look to the future, we anticipate our services will only grow in value to the people of Liberia with the implementation of our 5-year plan.

Four Thankful Imams!

Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia (HWHL) is a Christian medical ministry, called to care for all of God’s people living in Kakata, Margibi county, Liberia. In March, Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia (HWHL) and Hands of Hope teamed for their annual March Outreach, hat served over 600 people from the Kakata and Weala areas,including four Imams from one of the local mosques. The team of 33 included doctors, surgeons, nurses, physician’s assistants, physical therapists, lab technicians, and more. With their immense help and resources, we were able to provide free treatment, lab work, and drugs to nearly 500 patients; perform over 60 general surgeries for hernias, hydroceles, and other issues; and perform over 80 eye surgeries, including cataract removal., including four Imams from one of the local mosques.

This heartwarming video (link provided) features four imams four Imams returned to the HWHL Waterfield Clinic in Kakata to thank Dr. Chris Hena, our Medical Director, for medical care they had received during the Outreach. The four Imams were treated for various conditions, including growth on the neck, lip, cataract and hernia. The treatment received by all four Imams eliminated the embarrassment associated with their conditions, enabling them to live normal lives and pursue their jobs.

Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia mission is to continue to serve all the people of Kakata, living in 33 communities regardless of ethnicity (tribe) and religion.

Training of Community Healthcare Workers!

As we continue our mission of serving all the people of  Kakata and it's surroundings, we cannot do it without developing our Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs). These CHWs reach out into the 33 communities to assess various health conditions and provide basic health education to those living there.  Therefore, ongoing training of these CHWs is critical to make sure we continue to provide quality care to all the people of Kakata.
