Execution of "Robótica inclusiv@" courses

The Robotics for All: Principles of Construction and Programming course is a learning proposal designed to strengthen technological skills in young women with intellectual disabilities through educational robotics. It is expected that the set of didactic experiences will introduce participants to the world of robotics and at the same time allow them to develop skills to develop in any field of work and daily activity.

During the year 2024, 4 course executions were carried out for young women between 14 and 18 years of age, for a total of 38 participants. The participants come from the Greater Metropolitan Area, from the Josefino cantons of Alajuelita, Curridabat, San José, and Heredia.

The first implementation was carried out from August 17 to October 5, for groups 01 and 02, with 19 young women benefited. The second call was carried out with the "Programa de Inclusión de Personas con Discapacidad Cognitiva de la Universidad de Costa Rica (PROIN)" for groups 03 and 04 from October 12 to November 30, with 19 women beneficiaries. Both executions were carried out in the facilities of the Omar Dengo Foundation with a duration of 32 hours, with a total of 8 face-to-face sessions of 4 hours each.

The course is based on LEGO Mindstorms EV3 technology, and focuses on the constructivist theory, where the learning of the participants is based on learning-by-doing. The evaluation is not determined by quantitative results, they are qualitative assessments according to the capabilities and skills of each student, therefore, the course is based on participation and achievement.

For the year 2025, we continue with our work to continue extending the impact and offering about 2 more courses that strengthen the skills of young women with disabilities, thus contributing to the construction of an inclusive and accessible educational environment for all.
