Menstrual health is a critical aspect of well-being for girls, yet stigma and misinformation often hinder their ability to manage their periods with dignity, especially in rural communities. This report outlines Joy for Children Uganda's efforts to involve boys in addressing stigmatization and promoting menstrual health in Uganda's rural schools.
Boys play a crucial role in challenging harmful attitudes and behaviors surrounding menstruation. By educating and empowering boys, we can create a supportive environment where all students feel respected and valued, regardless of their gender.
Joy for Children Uganda recognizes the importance of involving boys in promoting menstrual health. Our approach focuses on education, empowerment, and advocacy to create lasting change in rural schools.
Conducting interactive workshops and educational sessions in rural schools, teaching both boys and girls about menstruation, hygiene practices, and the importance of empathy and support.
We train boys to become peer educators, equipping them with the skills to lead discussions and awareness campaigns about menstruation within their schools and communities.
We advocate for the inclusion of menstrual health education in school curricula and support initiatives that provide menstrual hygiene products to all students.
Boys demonstrate increased empathy and understanding towards menstruating girls, leading to a reduction in stigma and shame surrounding menstruation.
Schools become more inclusive environments where menstruating girls feel supported and valued, leading to improved well-being and academic performance.
Boys actively challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors related to menstruation, contributing to a culture of respect and equality in rural schools.
Joy for Children Uganda's initiative to involve boys in promoting menstrual health has made a significant impact in rural schools. By empowering boys to become allies and advocates for girls' menstrual health, we are creating safe and supportive environments where all students can thrive. We invite donors to support our efforts to expand this initiative and promote menstrual health education in rural communities across Uganda.
Thank you for your consideration, commitment and support to promoting gender equality and well-being for all students.
