Dear Donors,
We are excited to share with you an update on our Menstrual Hygiene Program for young girls at Joy for Children Uganda. This initiative is important for empowering girls in both urban and rural areas, helping them manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence.
Menstrual hygiene is a major challenge for many girls in Uganda. Without access to sanitary products and proper education about menstrual health, many girls miss school during their periods, which harms their education and well-being. Our program tackles these issues by providing education and essential hygiene supplies.
We have held workshops to teach girls about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and the basics of menstruation. The feedback has been very positive. Most girls say the reusable sanitary towels we provide, along with the knowledge they gain, have been extremely helpful both at school and home. They feel more confident attending school during their periods and are better prepared to take care of their menstrual health.
In addition to providing sanitary towels, we aim to create supportive spaces where girls can openly discuss menstrual health. This encourages peer support and promotes understanding within schools and communities. We also involve parents and guardians to help them support girls during their menstrual cycles. Educating families about menstrual hygiene helps break down cultural barriers and encourages positive attitudes.
The impact of our program has been important. We have seen improvements in girls’ attendance at school and a positive change in community attitudes toward menstrual health. Many girls feel empowered and comfortable discussing their needs, boosting their overall confidence and success in education.
As we continue to grow this program, we know that ongoing support is essential. We invite you to continue contributing to this important initiative. Your support will help us reach more girls, provide additional resources, and ensure all young women and girls have access to the information and supplies they need for their menstrual health.
Thank you for your commitment to improving the lives of children in Uganda.
